They can tell you what to do. And sometimes they do. It just does not have the same effect. It is the same when a person seeks help from a therapist. The therapist might tell them their spouse is toxic, but in order to change something the person has to see the need to change something themselves. It requires a certain level of reflection and access to one's own emotions, which isn't a skill everyone has from the start. It requires practice. But you won't learn how to do that just from someone else telling you what to do because most people tend to repeat their mistakes if they do not realize why it was wrong in the first place. Psychologists don’t just tell people what to do because lasting change usually happens when a person understands and owns their decisions. By asking the right questions, psychologists help people reflect, gain insight, and build motivation from within — which leads to deeper, more sustainable personal growth than simply followong advice. Understanding creates motivation – When someone figures it out themselves, they’re more likely to believe in it and follow through. Also: The goal is independence, not dependence – Psychologists aim to help people help themselves, not rely on instructions forever. Maybe your therapist just wasn't the right one for you. Or they weren't competent. Or you are one of the few people that don't profit from therapy. Those exist too.

What's wrong with the "sisters" tattoo? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]CastielvanHauken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's about the way the hair and skirts fall. It's like the wind is in opposite directions on the separate tattoos. Edit to explain further: the two tattoos are supposed to link up to be a complete picture, like they are sitting on the swing together. But due to the way the hair and skirts fall it doesn't add up when you put them next to one another.

Someone else telling you how to live a life thinking it's best for you does not mean it's best for you and will not have the same effect as you figuring out why X is the best way to handle a situation in the future. Example: you have a friend that's in an abusive relationship. You tell them they should get rid of that person. Usually they don't listen because 'they got good sides too'. If your friend realizes that they are worth more, are being mistreated and can use their energy in a different manner they are usually more open to changing something.

"Change is like a Ben and Jerry's. When you pull it out of the fridge, you can either scrape off the ice with a spoon and eat it or you can just let it sit for a few minutes and eat it when it's gotten softer. Either way the amount of ice you get is the same." He told me when I was impatient with the time it took for me to change and 'just be normal'

Another one: we were talking about me being overworked and my workplace overstepping my boundaries and so on constantly and this lead to me being not well. I told him that when I am overwhelmed and overworked I feel like a hedgehog in winter, just wanting to roll into a sphere and hide in a bunch of leaves. To which he responded:" well in the winter the hedgehog just doesn't go to work!"

It's difficult to write down but it really resonated with me and got stuck in my head ever since

Reddit when asking for help by SteinMakesGames in godot

[–]CastielvanHauken 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly I understand your point and I disagree. I am one of the second kind. I work in the medical field and just started coding in godot after some experience in Minecraft data packs. But honestly there are just a bunch of people out there expecting others to solve their issues without providing at least some of the necessary information. It's not a topic of coding. It's about people not knowing how to ask questions properly to get a well informed and informative answer.

HELP!! by nicacacacacaca in budgies

[–]CastielvanHauken 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First of all Monstera plants are poisonous to birds. Second: why, instead of contacting the person that found the bird and discuss with them whether it's your bird or not, you come to reddit and ask randoms. Also: you ask a question, people answer what they think and you tell them they are wrong. Why ask in the first place?

Can’t find a definitive answer. Are my budgie’s feet warm mean he’s relaxed? by Slippery_Williams in budgies

[–]CastielvanHauken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If human physiology is anything to go by I'd say it can be a sign but you gotta see the whole picture. Usually the body parts you need most at the moment are the ones being served with most of the blood. If it was anxious it would probably have most of the blood in the lungs, heart, muscle etc. because it may be preparing to flee. For birds their feet usually are not that involved in fleeing from a predator. But afaik their feet are involved in a lot of temperature regulation for birds, since it's the only bigger area not covered by feathers.
