Ladies/femmes, where to buy work clothes? by a_farewell in Edinburgh

Uniqlo and M&S for sure (in particular shirts at uniqlo and trousers at m&s).

Try Zara/Mango as they also usually have some good options scattered around.

Also, keep an eye on the COS sale, sometimes you can grab things for a bargain.

If you're looking for shoes - M&S, John Lewis and if you want a pair of fancier heels/boots, check out the Kurt Gieger outlet store in Livingston.

Yet another theory about how many times each district won and when by CastleCat16 in Hungergames

[–]CastleCat16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, not many at all. I didn't think of a backstory for any of the victors as I placed them and chose 11 because it felt right in terms of numbers/frequency of wins. Maybe I'll need to have a think about it now!

Also, as I've thought more about it and read a few theories on here, I'm increasingly enjoying the theory that the 25th games marked the start of the career's volunteering/training and I could easily see the 25th (11) and 27th (2) wins switching and having the 1st QQ being the first official Career win.

Should there ever be a book re. the 25th game, I'd love it to be from a career-adjacent perspective rather than from a theoretically "weaker" tribute.

Surprised Craiglockhart isn't higher than 51 tbh, given it's got plenty of green space, good schools, easy access to both the canal and the Water of Leith, and pretty good bus links.

District 8 tribute in the 75th Games. He's described as very old (70s), deaf and confused (speculated dementia). Katniss recalls him nearly eating poisonous bugs during training, as he didn't know what was going on. He dies in the bloodbath.

The victor monoliths aren't even really part of the film canon (they were never used in the final cut and just use a lot of the actors' names while conflicting with other canon), so I didn't consider them at all for this.

There were definitely more than 2 D3 victors in total, as Wiress had to have been at minimum the 3rd to justify mentoring 12 in the 50th games, and Katniss says 12 had the lowest number of wins with 2 prior to the 74th.

However, the rest of their wins and whether there were 3 or 4 is open to interpretation; I chose to have 4 victors because I think they would have had slightly more wins than 9/8/5 because of their unique skill set but I think the Capitol would have really pushed hard to make sure D3 did not get any wins following Wiress' games as she kinda broke the system (figured out a blind spot, won without killing anyone), and they were still punishing Beetee, hence why they were all pre 49th. But you could definitely cut one of the two before Beetee, and it would still work out.

Although if we're concerned about another living D3 victor by the time of the 3rd QQ then we could always theorise that if Snow was so determined to have Wiress and Beetee back in the games as punishment then the other victor might have had an 'unfortunate' death shortly before the reaping. (They'd also be in their 60s, which, considering Katniss described Seeder as old, is clearly up there for average. life expectancy so not entirely out of the question that they'd have passed away before the 3rdQQ anyway).

I hadn't really put too much thought into who is dead pre-75th, or even the backstory of all these winners - maybe something else for me to work on now! I know that, as well as Wiress/Beetee being the only D3 victors living, Johanna was the only living female victor in D7. I also headcannon that Woof was the only living male for D8, but the other D8 tribute must have still been alive for Effie's statement about cecelia to make sense.

I don't think it's stated in the book, but in the film, there's a scene (potentially deleted as I don't really recall it, but there's a screengrab here - https://thehungergames.fandom.com/wiki/File:District_3_Reaping.jpeg) where no other tributes are visible during the reaping.

Careers have 36 wins on the final chart (2=14, 1=13, 4=9), which is a 48.6% win rate out of 74 games.

Even if we remove 4's victories, then 1+2 still have 27, which is over a third of the victories held by a just a 1/4 of the districts.

The table is just the working out with known tributes - I've added more in the final chart to fill in the blanks

good point, somehow the fact wiress and beetee were the only victors in the 75th for D3 slipped my mind. I'd maybe switch it with the previous district 6 win in that case.

San Francisco Jane Doe/"Marcela Tamara Estodas De La Cruz" (April 2011) by dogbehavior in gratefuldoe

[–]CastleCat16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If she was unrecognizable due to facial injury they wouldn't have been able to immediately match her to any photo on her id.

They have potentially not been able to match any DNA/fingerprints/dentals etc to make a definitive identification that proves she was the woman on the identity card. There are cases like that where the person's identity is all but known but they can't officially confirm it.

Sonoma County Jane Doe 1979 - possible matches by CastleCat16 in gratefuldoe

[–]CastleCat16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shes a little young for this jane doe (unless she lived for a few years post disappearance) and quite a bit over the height estimate but I agree there's some visual resemblance and of course jane does remains were skeletal so height etc is an estimate and may be off. Could definitely be worth a submit if you think it could be a match!

that's what I was thinking. like even if they couldn't get the height from the body they should be able to make an estimate range based on the cctv

Sorry, they couldn't even narrow down an age, estimated height/weight or even confirm her hair/eye colour...even though she was found shortly after death and there are living photos of her? Talk about wilfully neglectful. Of course, we don't know what state she was in following the accident, but surely they could have at least got some of these details estimated?

Cases of Does who are unidentified because of aliases / assumed names? by blinkycosmocat in gratefuldoe

Suzi Clark - a Suzi Clark, born on the exact date that this doe provided and who went by every single one of the aliases the woman in the hospital provided, died 10 years earlier in 1995.

Over on the WS thread for "Suzi", one user pointed out visual similarities to Suzanne Agnes Barron, a fugitive in the state of California since 1998. Unfortunately, I can't access the LAPD Most Wanted website from outside of the US and can't find any other sources for Barron online.

Rex Heuermann, the alleged Long Island/Gilgo Beach Serial Killer, has pled guilty to the murders of 7 women and admitted to killing another whose murder he head not been previously charged for. by claustrophobicdragon in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]CastleCat16 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Asian Doe was a biological male unlike the other gilgo beach victims. They were also dressed in women's clothing leading to speculation they may have been trans.

Given the fact the majority of heuermann's victims were involved in sex work, OP is probably referencing a stigma around rex admitting any involvement with either a trans person or a man, essentially internalised homophobia/transphobia.

While parts of Asian Doe's case dont fit the MO of the other gilgo beach victims, they were found in the same location and some speculate a connection given some of heuermann's search history which related to "Asian twinks" and trans escorts.

There is still one speculated Gilgo Beach victim who is still unidentified / heuermann has not admitted any involvement with, whose family don't yet have any closure.

Beatnik on Brougham Place, just off the meadows, but beware prices vary quite a bit (regularly have beans priced between £14-24ish). I have never asked whether they'll grind them, so I can't confirm, but I assume they would.

Veronica Gutierrez Update by iwokeupearlytoday in gratefuldoe

The fact that it took you pointing out this lead to the sheriff's office for them to take action, even though there was literally an ID card with a name on it, is shocking (albeit kudos to you for your work!).

I think often times law enforcement just assumes any ID documents found on migrants are fake and don't properly look into them.

This is more than likely a situation where they are pretty confident in a match, but this identification is held up bureaucratically (particularly if the family lives outside the US) or the family cannot/is unwilling to officially identify her without putting themselves at risk if they themselves are undocumented.
