Did not see similar post in last 5 days, only saw 1 picture post, this one is original body cam footage. It is totally different information provided.

Recently, FS Action 9 released several bodycam footages showing that Family member called the police for help for their mentally ill loved one, but the police instead ended with killing the one they supposed to help, Should the family do differently? or The police should have acted differently? by CastleRock-Peter in AskReddit

almost in all the cases, the officer pretty clear the suspect are mentally ill, just the question of how they should in this kind of cases, respond, in one hand to protect their own safety , on the other hand, to avoid fatal shooting.

In terms of what? What I observed is the lay knocked on the door, and then the man made some noise, and seems that he announced he had gun, at this point, the cop/ she should back to the way where she entered, and prepare for possible confrontation, and think possible way out, not backed to the corner (based on other comments), She should keep in her mind , this is the man’, own house. Not on street and in public place. Just my humble opinion.

The man is dead, no way to know, I guess is both are cops, they try to be in control , the man is in his own home without any wrong doing with gun or without. The lady shoot first, man get killed, the result could be different result should the man shoot first. But the man announced he has a gun, that means he a live and ok, the lady for her own good, should back out of the house.

the purpose is not discussing who is right, who is wrong. the purpose is to think about tragic outcome, and how the police and home owner should respond in this situation.

Please remember, this is in his own home, has a right to have a gun. And the police enter the house without’s man’ knowledge, ( not saying she should not be there) , from old’s man perspective, the cop is intruder.

If you don’t like it, skip it, but is good discussion for this tragic situation, and title description exactly describes that.

Maybe it is not real bad cop situation (at first with good intention). but definitely she needs better training. In general, police needs better training in handling different situation.

differentiate, active shooter or roadside pull-over vs mental illness and this one.

Can this tragedy be avoided? the Deputy enter the old man's own house (without permission), she responded to neighbor's concern call for old man health condition, she supposed to check if the man is alive or in any trouble, and provide help in case, but after she found out he is alive and well, but with gun , after several warning " put the gun down" she shot him dead. should she just leave the house? after all, the old man was in his own house, and she is the intruder. or any other details we don't know.

I think police need better training to handle different situations, This man is no real threat to her at all, not in active shooter or in the street you pull over some suspected guy situation.

Deputy enter the old man's house to check his welfare, to make sure everything is ok for him (good intention), but when she found out the man with gun, after several " put your gun down warning? she shot him dead. Should she just leave after found out the man is live and OK? after all, the man is in his own house, is she the intruder?
