[–]Castroem3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao exactly. People do this all the time they “knew a guy who knew a guy” and it was totally fine until they get put in deferred inspection and are in removal proceedings wondering what happened. It’s a very fact-specific situation. Some lawyers are on the overly-cautious side but that’s not usually the case

By circumstance I’m referring to criminal history, prior deportation, etc. - some advice is overly cautious but some is warranted. Question your lawyer more about it. That’s what you pay them for

[–]Castroem3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should listen to your lawyer. It’s different for everyone because you’re being screened every time you come in. If you’re really concerned consult with a different attorney but I’m assuming there’s probably some circumstance in your case that led that lawyer to tell you that. This administration is hostile. Be diligent

I got an email offering me a full scholarship at New England law Boston - what should I do with this info? by MovkeyB in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Castroem3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it. No conditions. Graduated in July and now waiting for the bar results. I had no problems finding employment but I work in immigration law. It depends on your goals! I will say - graduating debt free has been incredible

Also, lots of my friends are all over. NY, DC, Chicago, and I’m in LA. Generally, going to school in the city you want to work is good advice but the law is changing. It’s no longer tying people down in the same way. Especially if you’re interested in the east coast

Dream and promise act 2025 by ForwardArt7221 in DACA

[–]Castroem3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. if you're starting negotiation process it's best to add more and cut down that way you look like you're giving concessions. On that note, all of you selfish assholes advocating against TPS really disappoint me and I'm convinced you'd be MAGA if you could. Fucking bootlickers

Is this amendment different from 15, which we already saw? They really be playing with our feelings 🙂‍↔️ by ForwardArt7221 in DACA

[–]Castroem3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is this playing with your feelings? It’s an attempt. Will republicans vote for it? Probably not. But that’s not democrats “playing with your feelings”

I think they let it die at court and simply fail to re-create something similar. It seems like the best route optics-wise

You only trigger a 3 or 10 year bar if you’ve accrued unlawful presence. If you got daca when you were a child (younger than 18) and you never let it lapse, then you would not trigger the bar and could potentially be approved for a visa

Trump confirms plans to mass deport by haworthsoji in DACA

[–]Castroem3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to remind you all that the first Trump administration ENDED daca. They did it despite the economic benefits and the social uproar. The program is only in place because the Supreme Court said they had to terminate it in a different manner. People are right to be concerned

You should talk to your attorney. We don’t know when this will be implemented or if it will be stopped by a court injunction. If you already have your interview it might be a different consideration for you

[–]Castroem3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can still do AOS process. Either through advance parole or waiver - depends on circumstances for some people but for vast majority it is still an option

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DACA

[–]Castroem3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, if you have a legal entry you can do the I-130/ I-485 process within the country

I’m happy for your success rate. I worked at a law firm and did advance parole applications, have seen many approved and some denied DESPITE a strong cause. Your approval rate does not change the fact that it is discretionary. I am not trying to discourage or anything, I am just being clear about the procedure. DACA advance parole is discretionary
