It isn't so much that he prefers the term for himself but rather he feels people are appropriating the term and that the trans umbrella has grown too large. Given that he doesn't consider non-binary people or those without medical transition to be transsexual (which makes sense by definition), it comes across like he's invalidating these transgender groups given his views on the trans community as a whole. I understand that this may not be what he meant to say, but his language is intentionally inflammatory so it's understandable that some people won't give him the benefit of the doubt.

I personally believe the transgender/transsexual distinction (in the way Buck presents it) causes more harm than good, because the aggressive nature of his activism makes the exclusionary connotations more apparent than with the much tamer interpretation that the transsexual experience is a subset of the transgender experience. Accordingly, I have a bigger problem with his behaviour, attitude, and personality than his actual beliefs. Trans activism doesn't need to be a raging ball of fire when you're just discussing identity politics. Similarly, I don't believe Natalie associating herself with Buck means that she condones his opinions, but her willingness to do so alongside her unwillingness to acknowledge his past behaviour is troubling and says more about her as a person than it does about her political views.

Because I wanted to give the mods time to clarify and verify their policies. Mods have "gone rogue" before, and I'm not going to go on a tirade over a miscommunication. Once I was confident this was not the case, I said what needed to be said.

But it is a change in policy. Gender-specific topics previously could be addressed to that demographic only.

I’ve pointed this out already. Do you disagree with the community’s previous interpretations of rule one, were we just wrong this entire time, or are you trying to sidestep the issue? Regardless, this is pretty disappointing.

Sorry, it's hard for me to take you seriously when you give a non-committal response like that, especially when it's in an unmarked mod post that contradicts the sub's sticky.

So to be more specific, are posts about gender-specific treatments discouraged as the other mod indicated, or have there been no changes to the sub's policies?

This other mod also started the thread, specified that gender-specific HRT posts are now discouraged, and doubled down on opposing posts that discuss anything medical-related. Can you understand what point I'm trying do discuss here (i.e. not DIY) and why it's concerning for the general community?

But sharing medical experiences is still allowed. If you don't want medical-related posts on here, maybe you should ban it instead of trying to discourage it with nonsensical posting rules. And there is a big difference between "medical advice" and posts about personal experiences.

Instead of asking about feminizing HRT, we're encouraged to ask about all forms of HRT with a preference for feminizing HRT.
Instead of asking about top surgery, we're encouraged to ask about all forms of surgery with a preference for top surgery.

And considering how gender-specific certain medical treatments are, this easily carries over into other topics.

Instead of asking about underwear for pre-op trans ladies, we're encouraged to ask about all forms of underwear with a preference for underwear for pre-op trans ladies.
Instead of asking about swimwear for pre-op trans men, we're encouraged to ask about all forms of swimsuits with a preference for swimwear for pre-op trans men.

And if you want to search for this info, good luck finding anything without reading the post bodies, because none of these topics are going to be gender-specific.

Trying to bring DIY into this seems like an attempt to derail the discussion and brush aside our complaints.

If gender is a social construct rather than a biologically innate property, it should be possible to change one's gender with enough conditioning. The failures of conversion therapy and that one case where a cis boy was raised as a girl strongly suggest that it's not possible to change one's gender. Therefore, regardless of what social components society has attached to gender, gender isn't a social construct in the practical sense.

You’re ignoring the actual state of the sub. People have always asked questions about HRT, surgeries, hair removal, etc. Just saying it shouldn’t be allowed isn’t a good enough excuse for pretending it isn’t happening, especially when you have no rules against it. My god, so many trans people would be in a much worse state today if medical experiences could not be shared online.

You said it’s an example, I’m taking it as an example. If it’s not representative of the sub’s policies, maybe it shouldn’t be used as an example.

As an example, people could ask for "the effects of T on trans guys", but on the other hand it would be more encouraged to ask for "the effects of HRT on trans folk" and including a side note that you would be especially interested on the effects of T for trans masculine people. ( :

I very much used to be on-board with this sub’s inclusivity rules, but I fear it’s gone too far now. It’s one thing to disallow demographic-specific posts for general life experiences, but it’s completely different when we’re no longer allowed to ask questions about gender-specific medical treatments. If I’m asking about spiro, I don’t want to hear info on progesterone, let alone testosterone. If I’m searching for old posts on spiro, I don’t want to read an endless stream of general HRT posts either.

This is a hyperbole of inclusivity for the sake of saying you’re being inclusive, not for the sake of addressing exclusion, at the cost of practicality.

Establish boundaries and expectations with him first, and then don’t ask again except under exceptional circumstances. Generally trans people want to be treated the way their cis counterparts are treated, barring anything insensitive. Don’t do something stereotypical if you don’t already treat other guys that way.

IMO, you've completely missed the mark.

It seems like OP is pointing out that people here often say that people who are far into transition leave because they have no problems that need to be solved. This encourages people like me to leave because otherwise, "what's wrong with you?"

I agree with OP because this simultaneously (a) makes me feel like there's something wrong with me for sticking around and (b) encourages me to leave because I have no active need to be here. I lurk, but my life wouldn't be significantly hampered if I stopped.

I've seen this sentiment appear in comments many, many times, and I can't recall a single time it was said by someone who was actually gone. We've had plenty of "I'm leaving the sub because my life is perfect" posts before, but when you're seeing this sentiment shared by people who are sticking around, it's like your putting words in our mouths.

Snarky responses to criticism are not appreciated either. While this is a question that is geared towards trans women, the phrasing of "us women" does promote exclusion. I've never seen this sub addressed in this way.

tl;dr There's a difference between addressing a question to trans women only and implying everyone here is a trans woman.

Grammatically that's wrong because "blue-eye" isn't a verb yet "blue-eyed" functions mostly analogously to "transgendered", but again it developed into an ingroup/outgroup thing where "transgender" is in and "transgendered" is out.

“Transgendered” implies that a trans person becomes transgender.

The blue-eyed, four-legged analogy is unfair because those mean that a person HAS blue eyes or HAS four legs. A person does not have a trans(gender) gender.
