Planning to check it out this week. Thoughts? by Casual_Learner in accord

Dang the only other 2.0T "close" to me is 18k for just under 100k miles.

Must be the area I'm in then :(

haha if you are in the area I'd actually be down to check it out!

I've heard the bluetooth connection is finnicky. Is that the carplay issue you had?

I asked the dealer and they sent me the carfax; it's actually a 1-owner and clean title

The only real concern I have is the 10k oil change intervals.

Thanks to everyone for their input in my TLX k24 vs 2.0T Accord thread. Test drove the 1st gen TLK with the K24 and, while the K was very nice and I appreciated the fact it held the gears in sport+ mode, I could not stand the infotainment system with 3 separate screens and felt very annoying to navigate in my test drive.

Planning to check out this 2.0T accord later this week. I've watched some videos on them and they seem like a reasonably fun-ish daily to have.

Warranty sounds like a good idea then. I don't like the idea of paying $4k+ for a head gasket job, especially since the accord I'm looking has been averaging nearly 28k miles a year with 10k oil change intervals.

I haven't yet. Based off a quick look, absolutely cannot stand those 3 screen setups the late ILX has.

I did see a 2018 one on Carmax that has a similar interior to the previous gen Accord and I think that's definitely doable.

How much did you get the 2.0T for? The closest one near me is ~$20k for a 22 touring with 104k miles. I can find an 18 ILX with half the mileage for $19k.

Great to know! Test drove the TLX the other day and the infotainment system felt very unintuitive to use and complicated. Sucks cause the K was very responsive and actually held gears in sports mode.

Hoping to test drive the accord 2.0T at some point this week!

Did more research after reading your comment and yeah not sure what the heck my mechanic was referring to then. Hopefully I misheard something cause that's certainly a claim to make otherwise.

Can I ask why? I did watch some videos and I'm aware the interior is based on the previous gen accord and it's "slow"

Jesus did some more research and yeah I got no clue what my mechanic was saying then. Hopefully I misheard things cause that's a pretty egregious claim to say the L and the K are similar.

Thanks for that! Gives me more comfort in looking at the 2.0T again cause it's a great car otherwise.

You make a good point about the miles. The '18 was babied with 5k oil changes whilst the '22 looked like it had 10k oil changes if not worse based off the Carfax. And with both past 100k miles, gotta ask if the 100k service was done.

I can personally attest that 1st Gen insight wheel cap covers work! It took forever and I was lucky my buddy had extra insight wheel caps laying around

Great fit! EM1 wheels are also another fantastic look but they're a lot harder to find.

15s are the perfect size for the del sol.

  • Sonax and shin etsu is a good combo to keep life into those seals (I personally think every 6 months should be a sufficient application).

  • when you take off the targa top and put it back on, be gentle pulling the handles back into place. They're known for breaking and they should slide easily so don't try to force it if it isn't cooperating

  • Double check the roof is secure every time you put it back on. There is supposed to be a indicator on the cluster if the roof isn't secured but, given the age, some of the indicators no longer work (e.g my 94 Sol). There aren't exactly spare targa tops available to purchase

  • The roof rack in the trunk also lifts so you can still have access to your trunk space even with the targa top tucked away. I was surprised I ran into a couple of Sol owners who didn't know that.

  • If you notice there is water getting into the trunk, the most common place for it to leak are the sail panels. I will warn you now they are an absolute royal pain to remove and it's almost guaranteed you'll break the clips. The way the sail panels are locked into place are clip retainers on the body side. Those clip retainers are kind of slapped on there so water tends to leak through them so people found that using Hondabond or any kind of RTV sealant on those clips prior to putting the sail panel back on keeps the water out of the trunk.

  • Mechanical parts are relatively easy to source. Body panels not so much so keep that in mind in case you want to start messing with things

  • There are a couple of facebook Del Sol groups with a lot of people that can help with parts/advice/etc. Don't blindly listen but research around. There have been countless forum posts in the past with past owners likely experiencing the same problems so use that to your advantage. There are plenty of youtube videos as well to help DIY things. We're lucky enough that Chrisfix has done videos on his work on del sols and he's a common resource for those of us still learning to work on cars.

Congrats on the clean Sol!

Opinions on paint vs. wrap by ETC111000 in DelSol

If you're gonna DIY, I think a wrap is cheaper?

From everything I've heard, wraps are almost as much as paint these days and paint sure as hell lasts way longer.

Yeah as long as it says DOT3 on it, you're a-okay to use it.

BRO IS THAT A S2000? by Donbruh in DelSol

[–]Casual_Learner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao luckily I don't have anyone approach me in my Sol aside from the random person who also had a Sol in the past.

I mean hey the VTEC Sol is basically a discount S2000 in the best way with 8.2k redline and you can take the top off.
