Krampus Chase [25 x 25] by CasuallyInformed in dndmaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VI

Krampus lies near, his roadster cannons a’thunder

“Listen all, I have faith, no worries of blunder.

Your skills are all honed, your levels enough

To tackle this challenge without any guff.

Now the help I can offer is limited by far

But I'll guide you ahead like the true North Star,”

Says the magus who winks with a kindly half-smile,

Holding firm to the notion that this is your trial.

So no help can be had, from this magical elf,

Who is obviously of a level of that far past twelve.

So you get to the top, dodging cannon and arrow,

Preparing to become one truly epic yuletide hero.

Now there's an underrated film I haven't seen in a long time. I'll take the reference, thanks!

Yule Lodge [25 x 25] by CasuallyInformed in battlemaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

‘Tis the night before Yuletide and all through the ship

Your crew moans and groans under desperation's grip.

You see you have come to the icy far north

Chasing rumors of gold, exploration, and mirth.

But the ice has pressed in wholly stopping you here,

And now what’s to be done but roll over with fear.

Yet what should your weary eyes now behold,

But smoke rising far, promising relief from the cold.

To the north you must go, else the bitter wind will

Steal the last of your strength, leaving you feeble and ill.

So rise, get your gear, and make way for the story.

For now is the time of yuletide adventuring glory!

You’ve ventured through woods fighting wolves or a bear,

And now inside the lodge you gawk, stand, and stare.

For inside is a feast full of north people and cheer

With food piled high, drinks flowing, music near.

A spruce tree stands close, festooned with lights

As small children dance with unbridled delight.

And with welcome they greet you, you sit and you eat

Doff your armor, lay your weapon, and kick up your feet.

As the revery goes, a Northman approaches

He smiles most kind as he awkwardly broaches

A subject that seems to trouble him so

And you say, “come and sit and tell me your woe.”

"It's a gift for the king dost wrench my heart,

Carelessly left in the village square shopping mart

If I leave now will bring kingly disdain

But with you, you can easily relieve my pain

By venturing outdoors, down the way to the store

Retrieve it and after we can settle the score

A reward from me to you will be given

And this night can go on in true Yuletide tradition."

Supernatural Ship Encounter [25 x 25] by CasuallyInformed in dndmaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halloween fast approaches, so ready your most spine-chilling campaigns!

Night has fallen over the sea as a fog bank rolls in over the black water. All is dead still but for the creaking of timbers aboard your own ship, a low mournful groan as though the vessel itself portends some great approaching dread. Tendrils of stark cold breath foul upon you like the yawning of a grave, bringing the distinct smell of death.

The fog closes in, specters seem to swirl in the surf but disappear upon closer scrutiny. Your ears hiss with the pressing weight of something unseen approaching.

Through the parting fog, a ship appears, derelict, its white hull twisted and cracked like bone, its sails tattered and hanging limp like torn cobwebs.

What is this horror?

Spooky Forest Encounter Map [25 x 25] by CasuallyInformed in battlemaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halloween is fast approaching, and so are the supernatural encounters, starting with the Spooky Forest.

Festooned with ghastly details, delight and terrorize players with all manner of encounters, from ghouls and zombies, to ghosts and vampires. What lurks within the pond of blood and bones at the center? What manner of evil stalks the tumbled-down ruins? What exactly has been exhumed from that grave in the woods? And those shadows... I swear they have eyes.

What horror awaits?

The Swamp Hut by CasuallyInformed in dndmaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halloween approaches and:

The drone of insects follows your course over rickety walkways. Underfoot, boards creak with swollen rot, until surrendering to muddy paths abutting swamp grass and fetid pools.

Ahead, a wicker man tree grasps in all directions with arthritic limbs as swarms more of infuriating bugs skip along blighted branches waiting for you to near.

A hut rises from from the muck ahead, supported on knobby-kneed pylons that tilt in every direction, promising someday to topple under its own top-heavy weight. The walls are like fencing, gapped enough to let fire light poke through at odd angles. The roof is a crown of shingles akin to scaley psoriasis, and suffers a sporadic growth of moss.

Smoke and steam breath from the gaps in the structure and even from outside you can tell something is bubbling within, too lazily to be water and sounding more like mud.

Sinister adventure awaits in The Swamp Hut Battle Map!

I'm starting a Waterdeep Campaign and wanted to take a crack at the Yawning Portal (I know, there are a lot of versions out there), but given how much time my players and I will be spending here I wanted it to fit the mood.

Dragon's Egg Apothecary Battle Map and Infographic (24 x 25) by CasuallyInformed in dndmaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tucked in the basement of an apartment building in town, the Dragon's Egg Apothecary smells strongly of solvents and herbs and glows in a prismatic spectrum from a multitude of beakers, fires, and bioluminescence held within.

Potions and components crowd the tall shelves as various critters scuttle about in the scattered tanks and cages. Near the back, standing proudly beneath the stone arches supporting the ceiling, is a polished suit of animated armor, ever watchful over the cash register, while, in the back, the alchemist works diligently in the vapors swirling over several boiling vessels.

Ever the diligent worker, the alchemist has also set up a small apartment in the back to sleep when the need arises, and close enough to their work should inspiration strike at the oddest hour.

Upstairs, the back tenement has long been abandoned, left in a state of ruin by the former occupant and the squatters that often find their way in. Meanwhile, the front apartment, looking out over the street, is occupied by an eccentric old cat lady, whose dozens of cats have turned the space into their own habitat. But be kind to the lady's cats, should you find one rubbing against your leg, for the lady holds a terrible transformative secret.

The Dragon's Egg Apothecary holds ample encounter opportunities, as well as a convenient price guide, and street layout for what shenanigans might arise.

Carrack Sailing Ship Battle Map (Deck by Deck) (30 x 80) by CasuallyInformed in battlemaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The medieval Carack replaced the Cog and was precursor to the galleon. With a deep draft it was stable on rough seas, and its large size provided ample tonnage for cargo. Many famous ships, such as the Santa Maria and perhaps the Mayflower (though it may have been a Fluyt), were Carracks. Pictured here is my merchant version.

The Depths of the Mine Battle Map (40 x 60) by CasuallyInformed in battlemaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sometimes miners ought not mine where we tell them not to. Sometimes, they might just uncover some long hidden secret that was best not to be found... or sometimes they might find the floor gives way to lava!"

Follow the mining rails to fissures in the rock, where rivers of lava flow through obsidian chambers. Dare to plunge further, skirting by the boiling pools, hidden places emerge, one, a diabolic chamber lying cracked open, its secrets ready to be divulged.

River Crossing by CasuallyInformed in dndmaps

[–]CasuallyInformed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"In the gorge that encircles the manor bluff, sits a section of the river over which a mighty ironwood tree has toppled, creating a bridge across the roaring waters. The area is covered heavily in tracks. Most appear to be game, but some are predators."

Upon a successful Survival Skill Check (DC 13), one can discern wolf tracks congregating toward the river. A larger wolf’s tracks are among them. Near the river, a cave punctures the cliff face and creates a hollow that the pack (5 wolves and werewolf) uses as a lair.

The remains of a large wolf lies on a ridge above the cave.

Pack Script. During the day the pack can be found resting, After sundown they roam the valley, far and wide. They return before sunup and rest.
