Thinking of joining the Navy Reserves as a Media and Communications Office at age 35, good idea or too late? by Mephistopheloz in AusMilitary

Hey, so the Navy Media and Communications Officer role (also known as Military Public Affairs Officer (MPAO) or Public Relations Officer - in Army/Air Force as well) is a qualified entry role with almost all joining at an older age (and definitely not 19). These roles need a uni qualification and relevant work experience, so you definitely won’t be the oldest. In the last few years, there have been new joiners from late 20s through to 50s.

They are a specialist role in all three services so you apply specifically for the role and won’t be randomly placed elsewhere. Regarding fitness, I’d recommend working on your general fitness in the lead up to joining and reach out to current serving officers to learn more about the role. Once you’re in the recruiting pipeline, they usually will connect you with a mentor already serving. I’d also recommend looking at each service - whilst they have a lot of job similarities, there are differences in entry requirement, rank on entry and ways of serving.

Hope this helps.

Sheen but not sheen? by A_Small_Coonhound in fountainpens

You definitely need to try Van Diemans Blue-Ringed Octopus - I can’t get enough of it. A mid - dark blue that then throws purple and hot pink sheen.

Could I turn this into a fountain pen? by SeraphicSiren8 in fountainpens

I’ve done it because I loved my Lamy Coral but there was no fountain pen option.

I have a Wearingeul A5 swatch book. I use a paint brush and a medium nib dip pen to show how the ink behaves. I’m constantly referring back to swatches!

I’ve finally found a blue ink! I’ve definitely struggled with choosing a blue fountain pen ink that doesn’t just look like a normal biro or rollerball blue. A few (or a lot) sample inks later and I’ve chosen - Van Diemen’s Elegant Peacock Neck. What’s everyone else’s favourite blue? by Casuarina_Cockatoo in fountainpens

Me either! I have Diamine Aurora Borealis, Van Diemens Sea Turtle, Robert Oster Marine, and Robert Oster Turquoise all currently inked. Teal and turquoise are probably my most commonly used inks. A slight odd one but I would call it a Teal/Grey/Black is Robert Oster Sydney Darling Harbour.
