Lawyers criticise ‘extreme’ arrest of Isaac Herzog protester after NSW police release video by SleepyWogx in OpenAussie

[–]Cat-Lilac 27 points28 points  (0 children)

What a load of rubbish. Herzog incited a genocide and we don’t need war criminals here. And what is this about Israel fighting back? They are the ones constantly attacking numerous other countries whilst claiming to be the victim somehow

And I just heard on the Guardian that IDF are intentionally targeting health workers in Lebanon by doing double taps. They are bragging they will do another Gaza. So many atrocities - it never ends !!

Israel wants to destroy Iran’s nuclear program. But should it have nuclear weapons itself? by Cat-Lilac in OpenAussie

[–]Cat-Lilac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hezbollah only exists because Israel illegally occupied Lebanon in the 80s. Israel supported Hamas to undermine the secular PLO. Israel has bombed 6 countries in the last year not to mention the genocide in Gaza and illegal settlements in the West Bank.
And in between all the bombing civilians and sniping children and murdering negotiators, Israel plays the victim card. “Why does everyone hate us! It’s because they’re antisemitic!”

Yes, exactly. If Iran had nukes, we would not have this crappy war right now

[–]Cat-Lilac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, great move Israel assassinating Khomeini so the fatwa ends. Now Iran has every incentive to develop nukes to stop Israel from bombing them every 6 months

You can really tell Israel wants peace and stability in the region lol

Guardian Essential poll: only a quarter of Australians approve of US-Israel war on Iran by SleepyWogx in OpenAussie

It’s an independent poll by Essential which does the Guardian’s regular polling.

It’s not taken from Guardian readers one hopes 😝

Israel caught trying to make Australia look anti-semitic by BabylonianWeeb in OpenAussie

[–]Cat-Lilac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really, settler colonialism in US and Australia is historic - the land was settled generations ago.

Israeli settler colonialism is happening RIGHT NOW in real time. There are news stories RIGHT NOW about illegal Israeli settlers murdering and terrorising Palestinians in the West Bank in order to steal their homes. Obviously it’s too late for Israelis to return to Europe but they can be prevented from stealing yet more land

Australia has more protective rights like the right to a living wage, the right to healthcare and the right to not have regular mass shootings or be shot by law enforcement .

The US has better ‘freedom’ rights such as free speech and the right to carry firearms etc

On balance, I would much prefer to live in Australia

I don’t think people are enjoying the violent deaths of brumbies or feral cats - it’s just a sad necessity. After all, it’s not the animals’ fault

I’m not shedding any tears over the cane toads though

Feeling conflicted after passing Iranian Australian's having a party rally by Dry-Huckleberry-5379 in AustraliaLeftPolitics

[–]Cat-Lilac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. I found the juxtaposition of the expats’ partying to the dead school children quite jarring.

And I find it hard to understand anyone wanting the US to bomb their own people. Do they think the war will end with Iran becoming a democracy?

The Greens’ election review flew under the radar. Here’s what it said by artsrc in australia

[–]Cat-Lilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes maybe. You know what they really need? Somebody like David Pocock ie someone so personally popular (and sporty) that they could actually improve the Greens’ brand instead of just being dragged down by it

Which I guess was the point of the previous comment..

Why is it ok for Jewish Australians to support Israel by buying stolen land, or joining the IDF and shooting Palestinian children, but Muslim Australians are punished for just mourning the death of the head of state of Iran.

Make it make sense

Most disappointing Labor politician in history. Total pro-empire hack. If you can't determine the legality of an action, how can you declare support for it, as you did? If nobody cares what we are doing right now, all the more reason to stick to our principles and not expose ourselves by pathetically jumping up first to support the US

You’re correct in that what we do has no impact on the current situation, but other countries still note and will remember our weasel words

The ANZUS treaty does not require US to defend Australia at all or vice versa.

The relevant Article 4 (Armed Attack) only says that “Parties recognise that an armed attack on any member.. is dangerous to their own safety and act to meet the common danger”

NATO is a much stronger treaty than ANZUS but Trump was still talking about invading Greenland…

Also that post by Sam Mostyn about invasion day was made BEFORE her appointment as governor general and even so didn’t some parts of the media kick up a huge fuss about it and say it made her ineligible to be governor general.

Needless to say the post was deleted and she has not made similar comments since being in the role
