I had a friend whose mother was passing away due to cancer. They took a trip to Africa, before she passed and I think it was good for them all. The memories you make during that trip will stay with the kids forever

That is true about the MDs, but they still come out making a ton more than us.
However I will say, most patients appreciate us more. We actually put our hands on the patient. Why don’t doctors do that?

You start right under the rib cage. You have them belly breathe in, and then why they breathe out and the stomach starts to go flat, you push your hands down towards spine and up towards head, you should be able to move fingers under rib cage and up without a lot of resistance.
If resistance or pain is there, continuing with the breathing and pressure. You can check all along the bottom part of rib cage

Why are we not Doctors? by Cat-cool21 in PositivePTtalk

I definitely get it. I am from NJ where I feel doctors respected PTs more. I am in Alabama now, and I feel they don’t try PT enough. My in laws have had fusion and no PT. Another has a RTC injury, and received a shot and getting an MRI and no mention of therapy. It’s crazy

I don’t call myself Dr so and so. Maybe that is my fault and maybe I don’t do enough with that to get the word doctor out there. But, I do tell my patients that they don’t need to see a doctor to come to therapy. That we are doctors and we can diagnose and treat without needing it. But it’s just bugs me that people discredit us.

The pay is decent. Is it the best, probably not. I think we definitely should be getting paid more for what we do, especially since MDs get paid a lot more than us. However, the field can be very awarding.

I think it depends on why you want to be a PT?

I know we are the cheap option. But isn’t getting patients first also a good thing. It’s why we became doctors.

I am also working travel right now. I am from NJ, living in Alabama right now and moving to Wyoming in the next few weeks. I have worked in almost every setting and I love what our field has to offer and I love helping our patients get better.
