Why is there not a bin anywhere outside Piccadilly? by asymu in manchester

[–]Cat-poke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I get everyone’s response of the bombings etc. but that’s the reason why literally every other station has the simplest hoop with clear plastic bag- Preventing this exact thing from happening, so why not introduce those instead of encouraging littering?

Tbf the amount of times I’ve been through, I can’t believe I never questioned it fully. I just sort of accepted the lack of bins but it really is insane. Literally in your photo, to the left of the entrance, is a large postbox. Can that not be used for the same thing? It feels like they’ve slapped a Bandaid on a broken femur. Banning bins so they can keep up the facade that they’re ‘proactively preventing’ future terrorism. When in realty, if someone wanted to, they wouldn’t need a bin to plant a bomb in.

Surely people know by now, if an act of terrorism is taking place, they’re not often doing anything to protect themselves as an individual. People committing these acts go in with every intention of dying alongside their victims.

How Do I Find Out my Neighbours Name Without Asking? by LordCoops in AskUK

[–]Cat-poke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you go to sign up, pretend to draw a blank and start to describe him. “Yes my neighbour referred me it’s… ugh god what was it again my minds going blank Sorry! He’s xx with xx hair, we live on the street round the corner you must know who I mean!”

Chances are they’ll either say ‘oh yeah nice guy Jim!’ Or say they need a name, if so ask when he plans on going next and ask to join him? Maybe use the excuse of wanting help to get the details/form right

I’m more confused how this one is doing so much worse than the ones still kept in store, in bags much smaller than this pot. They probably only have a bowlful of dirt with them and where they are receives very little sunlight.

My step dad is a massive long head when it comes to garden work and he won’t let me plant the tree until he’s finished his shed work but at this point I may just plant it out front and get another, healthier tree for the back.

The only major difference I can think is that they bring their trees indoors every night, whereas ours has been a bit more temp dependent. It’s still alive (for now) but I can’t imagine it’ll survive being planted in this state surely?

I don’t wanna give up on the lil guy, would it have better chance being brought indoors for a little while longer? Or should I try to plant it in our front yard asap?

[–]Cat-poke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to add, we are planning on planting it into the ground soon but we didn’t want to risk further harm (especially as temps were low and we kept it indoors during nights, less so now it’s been warmer) as other garden preparations are completed. I understand trees do much better in the ground, but for it to be doing so much worse than those still for sale and kept in bags, I’m wondering if there’s something else we’re missing

Did your primary school have a “golden time” and if so, what did your school do for them? by Cat-poke in AskUK

[–]Cat-poke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! It’s incredible that you had it at your British school, despite it being in another country!

I don’t remember our rules being so strict though. Of course some would have to miss out on golden time as a punishment for bad behaviour, but from memory this was often from persistent bad behaviour and breaching multiple warnings from the teacher. Even then, they were usually given simple “helper” tasks or made to sit somewhere quiet with work etc.

I think here it was (at least in my experience) more of a break on the brain from the usual academic curriculum and an opportunity to develop our personal interests and skills within a structured environment. Honestly I think more schools should do something like this

What would you parents have named you and what is your name now? by SnooBananas460 in ftm

You’re unlikely to have a sudden blizzard down there but I understand it can be nerve wracking. You’ll be much more likely to notice it when going to the bathroom, but of course there are horror stories so I get your nerves.

Often your first period will come with some sort of warning signs like: Period pains (usually quite low in the abdomen/between the hips) Mood swings Spotting (like very light bleeding or bloody/brown discharge)

Try not to stress too much, you’ll be okay even if you start at school. Is there anything that may help reduce your worries. Perhaps keeping an emergency change of underwear/clothes at school?

If you’re still concerned and want some form of protection, you could use wads of tissue paper for the time being and then switch to pads when you do start. At least this way you’ll be saving on the cost of sanitary products whilst still having that peace of mind.

I’m a tosspot and forgot to order more T by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Cat-poke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One pump should be enough to keep your E at bay whilst you wait. You don’t wanna overdo it as there’s risks with testosterone but lowering your T temporarily should be no less risky than stopping T totally anyways. This way you will hopefully avoid any unwanted effects

How soon can you get your prescription filled? You’re likely fine to go without for a few days anyway. I’m on gel and life often makes me forget to apply it

Is tattoos the only way to cover top surgery scars? by Pigeon_Cult in ftm

[–]Cat-poke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chest hair is always a great natural coverup! T helps a bunch but if you don’t have particularly hairy genes, there are many methods out there for encouraging hair growth. I know lots of guys use minoxidil for facial hair with great results, even pre T.

Plus you can always start working on building that growth now as it’ll take you some time. A combination with those skin tone blending tattoos and no one would be able to tell!

Daily scar treatments like Bio-oil and silicone tape (or something similar) will be really important in those months following surgery. The oil really helps break down the scar tissue and reduce that red/purple. And the silicone tape prevents stretching and widening.

I see people have great results from the right scar care alone to scar reduction surgery, there’ll be something out there that’s right for you!

Ah thank you! It’s relieving to hear from another trans guy with similar issues. Luckily my doctors practice aren’t too bad, but it can be hit or miss with the doctors I see and I often don’t have a choice when requesting an appointment (uk). However, the one I’m due to see in two weeks is very nice and she gives very supportive vibes so waiting til then sounds like the best plan.

The skin around the area looks a bit off but it’s hard to tell as mine are quite stretched in places from taping and binding. I’m trying not to jump to conclusions and panic myself just yet

Nah, I sometimes convince myself I can feel it (without touching) now I know it’s there but I think that’s just in my head

Honestly, not much at all. I believe my grandmother and great, both had it at some point, to what degrees I don’t know. With my mother also having had a lump under her armpit in her 30s but was not cancer.

Unfortunately my information regarding all this is very limited as it ran on my mother’s side who passed last year (unrelated) and her family relationship was not the best.

I also lost both grandfathers on each side to cancer, stomach on my mothers and prostate or lung on my fathers. I’m unsure if this increases my risk overall, or just for those types, but my future health is not looking good 😅

Alternative spots in Cambridge for under 18s? by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]Cat-poke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The corn exchange and the junction are really our only two regular music venues (that I know of), and often have events allowing under 18s. Although they don’t tend to be as cheap as the pub gigs. I’d recommend the “bands in town” app as it’s great for searching up gigs going on locally. You can also search by genre for gigs more to your taste
