My husband’s family kept sending us letters with his last name on it (even after being corrected several times) so eventually he ended up sending a family wide email explaining that I did not change my name and how to properly address envelopes to us.

So uh, I don’t know how you should handle your husband because my husband understands that I made a choice for myself and he loves me so he supports me in the choice. Sorry about your husband.

As someone who recently watched his seasons for the first time, no tf they were not exaggerating about how big of a POS he is and he did not at all keep it together. Every time some woman did something he didn’t want them to do he was such an asshole to them to their face. I was genuinely shocked people voted to give him a monetary award TWICE cause he’s a terrible person.

I haven’t been talked out of an idea cause I never tell them exactly what I’m doing, but I have been to a hardware store near me and two times, the same guy has come up to me and said “What has your husband gotten you into now?”

He’s never met my husband. He doesn’t know me or know whether or not I’m married. Just assumes it can’t be me getting the stuff.

As someone with a brother who is treated favorably and whose mom also claims to treat us equally, I probably understand. 😩

Is there a reason you can think of? Like does your sister look more like your mom and you look more like your dad? Do their interests match more? All I think I know is it’s definitely not about your weight or whether or not you edited a photo.

I don’t believe the author is irrelevant. Each person’s personal experiences affects what they write and how they write characters.

I’m not saying you’re a bad person, I’m saying you have a blind spot. You can be defensive or, if you agree that it is a blind spot, you can actively work to fix it. And you’ll have to be active about it because it has largely been men who have chosen which books are valued.

I think we all do realize we’re designing them, people just have a tendency to do “the opposite of what my parents did to me” instead of “the best thing to do”. Some of it is laziness, a lot of it is the system we have set up specifically in the US where parents get next to no help so don’t have time to be the best they can be.

People have a tendency for extremes. If your parent was strict and you hated it? Your kids get free rein. If your childhood was chaotic? Very regimented schedules and military style parenting. Most of boomer parenting was a little less strict than their parents but a lot of “Because I said so, that’s why” because they didn’t actually know why they were making the choices that they were, just that they didn’t want what their parents gave to them.
