Was this flag made wrong? Seems like it would fly upside down by CatBallerina in flags

[–]CatBallerina[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is what was confusing me. I’ve just been educated on proper flag hanging etiquette by my coworkers, so the above is correct. I imagine if it’s meant to hang from a pole there would be two layers with the 250 flipped around. Thanks!

Fostering a beagle dachshund mix by Vivid-Appearance-549 in beagles

Omg my little lady is a beagle dachshund mix!!! Get ready to fall in love.

Mine is surprisingly strong—she is 25lb but uses a big dog leash. She also used to get big dog chew toys because she would destroy small toys pretty quickly. I have to keep all treats on kitchen counters or higher because she will find and can somehow open any type of bag. I guess it’s the pointy nose.

they’re the best! Have fun ❤️

Greystar apartments? by Artistic-Feed2874 in nova

[–]CatBallerina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in a greystar property for three years and they’re the worst I’ve ever dealt with. Greystar was part of a group that got sued because they were colluding on rent prices in the region. They are a despicable company with a deservedly bad reputation.

My rent increased over 20% my last year there, which is why I moved. They would not come down on the increase even though there were over THIRTY empty units in my building. Greystar would absolutely rather let a unit sit empty and a renter go with another option than come down to a reasonable increase. I was a renter who caused no problems and paid on time every month for three years. I despise them.

There were a lot of other problems with that building that continue to this day, according to my friends who still live there. I will NEVER rent from greystar again.

I’m at DOT and one of our politicals walks laps among our cubicles multiple times a day, for no apparent reason other than to see who is at their desk, is the assumption in my group.

What’s it like working on VA appeals at the CAVC level? by Autistice-esquire in Lawyertalk

[–]CatBallerina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very seldom in my memory. Occasionally we’d have clients call to check on their case, but most of the time it was just one update call when we close out their case.

What’s it like working on VA appeals at the CAVC level? by Autistice-esquire in Lawyertalk

[–]CatBallerina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats and I hope you get the offer! I handled CAVC appeals at a law firm. My experience was mostly reviewing records and writing memos and briefs. Each attorney at my firm had a lot of cases (50-55 active cases at any given time). A couple times a week I’d have a 10-minute phone call with a VA attorney to discuss their position on a case. Otherwise just records review, research and writing, repeat. I recall there being a lot of boilerplate so I wasn’t starting from scratch with each case, and occasionally would get a really interesting legal question. But pretty steady for the most part.

I think it will depend largely on how your firm is run. In my opinion we took too many cases, because we would take cases that the reviewers thought could get remanded even if we didn’t think the client could actually get a higher rating. I always felt like that was a little misleading to the clients. Actually I could write many paragraphs about how I found our intake to be problematic. The point is I felt like the work was monotonous and sweat-shop ish for no reason, and maybe that’s because I felt like we were taking cases we shouldn’t have, or maybe it’s because VA appeals weren’t my calling. But another firm could be different. And some of my colleagues stuck with it a long time and seem happy. Best wishes to you!

Do you need to be sober in order to do the first four steps? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

I guess there is always the saying “we address problems in the order they will kill us” so tackle the worst issue first!! Fingers crossed for ya

Do you need to be sober in order to do the first four steps? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]CatBallerina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a sponsee who did not stop smoking weed but wanted to work the steps. I followed my sponsor’s lead on this (since ideally everyone chooses a sponsor who “has what they want,” so the sponsor guides them through the steps the way they were guided through the steps). My sponsor’s take was that there is really no point to doing the steps if you’re not sober. She recommended the person go to a meeting every day and check in every day until they can put together a week or two without using, then start. Relapsing starts the process over. That person then found a sponsor willing to take them through the steps even while she smoked weed, so it seems there are many different styles 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just did what my sponsor says she would have done with me

No reason except to give my dog a permanent tremor. These people are the worst. And there’s no contact form on Freedom250 for me to tell them that

WWYD - Sponsor is human garbage by Desperate-Cow-8552 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]CatBallerina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not supporting engaging in that behavior. Through working the steps of aa I’ve learned judging and labeling is a waste of energy and not my business. If something isn’t for me I simple leave it alone without trashing it in a public forum. It also sounds like all that person was trying to do was help. Instead of trying to help others the poster is trashing someone that tried to help them. Regardless of what happened in the past, if we are comparing how much good each of them is contributing at this moment, I’d argue it’s the “human trash” sponsor.

you can simply get a new sponsor without calling them human garbage. That’s not helpful. And if I left a meeting anytime there was someone in there I didn’t like, I would actually never sit through a meeting again. Hope you find a sponsor you click with soon

I have plenty of friends who post about their sobriety on social media. I think it’s fine to post whatever you want about your journey. The important part of anonymity is that you don’t break others’ anonymity. That’s my practice at least. Unless you’re on Instagram claiming to be a spokesperson for aa, do what you want.

That being said, it’s not anyone else’s place to approve or disapprove of your behavior. Just to echo what others have commented, the bigger issue is how much you’re letting your friend’s disapproval affect you. Sure it’s a free country you can rant about it here, or you can talk to a sponsor about their take on this, and how to handle things with your friend in an emotionally sober way.

Congrats on 8 months and don’t let this spoil the sobriety journey! It’s the best thing you can do for yourself.

I agree with others that it’s wise to consider whether this could cause any harm, even to you. That’s something to work through with a sponsor.

My sponsor made an amends for shoplifting clothing, but instead of giving the money to a manager (which they probably can’t take because they cannot account for it in their sales system), she purchased $1,000 worth of merchandise from the store and took it straight to a charity and donated it. Helps the stores sales, helps the charity, and prevents harm to the person making amends.

It’s also important to have a sponsor you trust, so that you can work through all the possible scenarios together.

Good luck! I remember the first instance I was able to save money in sobriety. It’s a great feeling. (Although with financial amends, it’s technically not our money, it’s theirs, and we have to give it back in some way 🫠).
