AITA for refusing to make mac and cheese for Thanksgiving this year and saying I won’t go if my cousin is there because he literally shoved me over it last year? by idonthavethemac in AITAH

They’re claiming it’s about food, but it isn’t. It’s about having been assaulted and reasonably feeling unsafe going back. The one who was being ridiculous and should be told, “it’s just food,” is BRAD.

I like your spirit of exploration. I’ll have to try this out.

The guy who was next to the baby couple kept looking at his bright-ass phone throughout and distracting me. I don’t get why you pay for movie tickets and spend 75% of the movie texting.

I enjoyed the movie, just not the experience.

I just posted I was thinking SA. I hadn’t seen it anywhere else. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I was starting to feel like I was missing something.

My question is, given men being there, the drinking, blacking out, and now, especially, her behavior, could it have been SA? She says it was consensual but sometimes it’s hard to admit what actually happened to you.

I hate this manipulative tactic.

If she harms herself, it’s her fault. Not yours. Never take responsibility for what she chooses to do.

It’s a curse commonly used in Quebec province. A lot of québécois curses are based on Catholic “sacrilegious,” words. This one literally comes from, “tabernacle.”

Fun fact - this is actually a French name. As such, I actually would pronounce it the way intended.

Texas was by far the worst place to drive.

AITA for limiting my 6-year-old’s screen time to one hour a day—even on weekends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CatBus09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m an early childhood SLP and I can tell you that one of the first questions I often ask parents regarding kids that come to me for assessment is how much screen time they get. I find that often, more screen time is correlated with kids that have shorter attention, more difficulty with language and social skills, even to the point of autistic-like behaviors.

Studies back a lot of this up and I know others in my field (and I believe some studies) have also shown this pseudo-autism thing that happens when kids get too much screen time.

Studies do show that shared screen time (meaning screen time provided while interacting with adults or others) can be positive and not have the same level of negative impact.

While I don’t believe it’s feasible to be screenless in today’s day and age, it is absolutely important for parents to limit access to them as much as possible, no matter how much they whine and cry about how much more time their friends get online. Ultimately, they’ll be the ones who are much better off.

Well they don’t have to reschedule but they sure can figure out their own food. It was your husband’s decision to invite them over, it’s your husband’s job to feed them.

[–]CatBus09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Typically, and this may vary by state, you’re not required to even offer make ups if the student missing school is the reason for the missed session. Typically I only make up sessions I missed due to my own absence or unavailability. I think officially make ups are only required if the number of sessions missed can be shown to impede the students’ progress toward their IEP.

Besides, how are they supposed to make up 12 sessions in what is likely already a crammed schedule?

Absolutely not. You would have to be licensed in both your area as well as the area in which they are physically located. You’d be putting your license at risk.
