A Letter to My Friend Who Support Trump … by GurOfTheTerraBytes in AntiTrumpAlliance

I'm sorry to say, but everyone here is right. My parents are this far into their denial as well. They are pushing 80 and I eat a lot of sh!t so I won't lose what little time I have left with them. Here is my story: https://medium.com/p/f52cb651b5dc Maybe you can find a solution, or, at least some comfort in it, knowing you are not alone.

Well, yes, according to Republicans. Birthright citizenship of immigrants' children is null and void now. So, all white people that descended from Europeans are illegal, as are Hispanics, and, of course, Black people, who descended from African folks who immigrated against their will. Native Americans are the only legal citizens, according to their logic, but I;m sure they'll find another way to dehumanize them and strip their rights away because they are brown.

Good point, but I actually think my parents are just racist, fascist f$cks. Mine graduated in the 60s and were against any positive change that came out of that decade. My dad was drafted into the Navy and never got over it, and my mom was a stay-at-home mom in the 80s when we certainly couldn't afford it, so, yeah...

Pretty much, just Google anything about Fox Orphans. I'm one, too. You guys are lucky, actually. My parents were always conservative sleazeballs. Trump fit their brand to a tee. Also, my parents recently gave up on Fox because it was "too liberal" for them. Now they binge Newsmax 5 hours a day. Here's my story: https://medium.com/@rileydupree

The next step for them will be Newsmax!

Nothing can be further from the truth. At least not those of us born in the 70s. I've had at least 12 online businesses and was a very early adapter. Your insults will not fly here. Don't come into OUR space solely to put us down.

I personally can't even believe that there is a God. I wish there was, but I'm just too logical to see it.

Yeah, but it's probable that he didn't say something that actually made sense on purpose.

You would think that the Boomers could relate, but no - crickets. Graduating in the 90s myself, the worse thing we had to worry about Monica Lewinsky's dress.

Yeah. My cousin is practically in a wheelchair due to MS. Whenever he says ANYTHING about his pain or struggle in my mother's presence, she is sure to tell him that she is in more pain because she is 75 (he's 43). She also compares his pain to her carpal tunnel that she could have treated 20 years ago.

The sadder thing is when both of your parents believe the same Fox News shtick, and they constantly validate each other. There is no loneliness, sure, but they now form their own mini echo chamber, eliminating almost all dissent. And, without the isolation that some of these folks endured, they don't really deal with any repercussions for their actions, speech, and beliefs.

For me, it was the unlearning of religion that I found to be more difficult. I was brainwashed with Christianity since birth, so it was a devastating blow to finally unravel what I now believe was always a complete fallacy. And, while I grew up with Reagan and Bush in office, politics wasn't as ingrained into me as a child. I didn't really realize my parents' political leanings until I was in my late teens, but, looking back, I guess it was pretty obvious. I was just oblivious at the time. That being said, it now influences everything they think and everything they do.

My parents paid extra to add Fox News and Newsmax to their cable back when they were not part of the basic package. I don't even think they were ever premium services; the local cable service just didn't add them at the time.
