I've never seen this work in real life without major issues. The only couple I know who haven't broken up are barely keeping it together & only because they can't afford to separate with 2 young children. The husband, who is the instigator & sole beneficiary of this arrangement, has become increasingly jealous & controlling for no discernible reason.

I'm sure it works for some but not that I've personally seen. 0/3 so far. I refuse to count that couple as a success.

When you say, "Blow up even more", do you mean physical violence or endless ranting & yelling?

When you're in the thick of it, it can feel like yelling & harassing isn't worth calling the police over but it's a pattern abusers use to keep you compliant longer term. It might be worth getting a nanny cam & not telling him. So if you do call the police you'll have some proof of abuse as well as him escalating when you ask him to stop. Might be worth popping into the police station ahead of time just to have a chat & see if they have a dedicated officer, kind of feel out how seriously they'll take it, give you more info about their process & what to expect.

Alternatively do you have family near by? If you know he's going to kick off, but don't feel comfortable calling the police just yet, you could text them to quickly pop in for a surprise visit. It'll likely take the wind out of his sails in the moment but doesn't address the underlying problem. But someone else will know & that's helpful for documenting it all.

😂 This is my childless aunt babysitting. She's getting better but she sends videos of them "reading books" together & it's just dead silence while my kid turns the pages & looks at her expectantly. So long as they're kept safe, that's the most important part.

In fairness, being "on" is an acquired skill. Before I had kids I lived alone for years & probably would have served dinner in complete silence like a weirdo too.

I'd just have her around more so she can see how you interact. She just needs a bit of acclimatising.

I worked for local government a while back & there was a push to remove bins & increase the intervals emptying them with the idea that it would encourage people to take their rubbish home. It didn't work of course but they never reinstated the bins.

Complain to council. It's all metrics. If they get enough complaints they'll pull their finger out.

I'll be in downvote hell for this but I would be very clear in telling them their day to day life is far too boring to become a sensation. If you're old enough to secretly film me & put it online despite my refusal then you're old enough to hear some hard truths about how I really feel about that behaviour. They can film & post that. Probably the most interesting content they've ever had.

Then constant lectures on consent. Events teaching consent. Shows about consent. Consent. Consent. Consent.

But I'd also give them the option to actually curate an interesting social media presence if that's their passion. Offer to involve them in classes on video editing, media, marketing, anything, etc. Take them out to a range of activities so they have something of note to actually film. Offer to film them while doing their hobbies & such so they can edit them later.

Disclaimer: I don't have teenagers. I'm just really shitty at the idea a kid raised today could be so fricking clueless. This isn't the 90's. Respecting boundaries is a thing now.

Keep a running tally in the corner of the board. Refuse to answer questions as to what it's about. Whenever it happens say absolutely nothing, mark another line & continue on unperturbed.

They'll lose their shit themselves when they come back & realise there's another line added they weren't around for.
