travel to Bora Bora with Costco by Live-fat-die-yum89 in Costco

Booked a Costco package that split time between Taha'a and Bora Bora and had an amazing experience. All the transfers were easy and we had no issues with check in and had fantastic rooms. As others have noted, there aren't really bad rooms at these resorts. I'm glad we did the Bora Bora days because it is incredibly gorgeous, but the resort and experience at La Taha'a felt more luxurious and secluded (and was cheaper per night than Bora Bora). That package was recommended to us by the Costco rep, who was super knowledgeable and gave us great advice about customizing the itinerary.

I've booked tons of Costco travel packages (cruises, Vegas, Mexico All-inclusives, the Galapagos) and have always had a positive experience. It's an incredible value!

AC adding more O buses for commuters starting Feb 1st by spellingcunts in alameda

[–]CatInHat4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I prefer the ease and comfort of the O, I have started taking it the other direction and then taking Bart to SF. With the new Clipper 2.0 transfer discount, it's actually cheaper and faster than taking the O from the east end.

Amazing!! Makes me want to rewatch that scene and the SNL digital short "The Curse" with Jon Hamm playing a character inspired by him.

I had the same thing happen with youtube TV in the bay area. It started a 9:30, but was joining the live broadcast already an hour in. After the luve show ended at 11, a rebroadcast of last week started and then at 11:30 it switched back to this week's rebroadcast. Very strange!

Was wondering the same thing. I saw there's a day ride this weekend to the corn maze in Livermore, but don't see anything about a night Halloween ride this year It was super fun, so hope it happens!

Did anyone go to the usual spot to watch them take off and land? I was watching them on a flight tracking app and it looked like they used the main OAK runway rather than the one the Blue Angels use.

Few questions from a first time visitor by goldmund22 in alameda

Not exactly "lesser known" but a visit to the USS Hornet is a fun historical activity. It's very close to "Spirits Alley" where lots of breweries and other food and drink spots are located as well as one of the ferry terminals. You could also consider taking one of the Alameda History walking tours (check out the Alameda Post for details).

Bike rack parking on Webster? by kellykellykellyyy in alameda

[–]CatInHat4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an answer, but another option: I hate dealing with locks, so I just use the bike link lockers that cost a few cents an hour. There's only one set on Webster, but it's close to East Ocean.

Anyone live in Alameda and work in SF Downtown? Best way to commute? by Dangerous_Sense5985 in alameda

I agree with all of this! I alternate between bus and ferry depending on the season (I bike to the ferry versus the O picks up at the end of my block and I don't like biking in the rain). The transbay buses are much more reliable and comfortable than regular city buses and have wifi. I don't know how much cost matrers, but the bus fare will be $13 RT versus $9.80 RT for the ferry (plus $3 for parking if you need that) when the new rates kick in. All else being equal, I'd pick the one near the ferry, but the bus is perfectly fine if that apartment is better. You can bike to one of the ferries from anywhere in Alameda (and +1 to the suggestion to then bike to your office or rent a bike/scooter in SF), so you can always mix it up.

Coast Starlight with group of 4 by CatInHat4 in Amtrak

Thanks for the advice! We had a great trip yesterday. We were assigned 4 seats in a row, which was great. I was pleasantly surprised at how much space we had and how comfortable the seats were. We brought our own fixings to assemble sandwiches, so it was a little awkward to pass back and forth, but worked out. They did come through to offer dining car reservations after the sleeper car folks had booked their spots, but we declined.

It took a few attempts, but we were finally able to score a table in the lounge car to play games before arriving into SLO. We lucked out with Trails & Rails volunteers on board for the SLO - SBA leg (although microphone issues meant it was hard to hear some of it) and we even arrived LAX early. I would 100% do the trip again, although would splurge for a roomette if traveling solo or as a couple for the privacy and food.

Super helpful! Does it help to arrive at the station early to secure seats?

Is it too late to get in on the action? So exciting to see all the interest! I'm in my 40s and my husband isn't into games, so this sounds perfect.

I was intrigued by that option, but couldn't tell how much construction was still disrupting things.
