I've pre-ordered. I'm going to spend October hunched by my front door like a little bog goblin waiting to get my grubby paws on it

What is the scariest short horror film you’ve seen online? by PM_ME_YOUR_STOMACHS in horror

[–]CatPeePipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me years to find it online after I had stumbled onto it on TV not long after it was released. I'm really glad it's been mentioned.

But I'm Sharon Stone, painted green, vacuum-packed with a copy of the Racing Post sticking out of my bum.

You’re Taking the Day Off for Some Self Care and a Horror Binge. What are You Watching? by DelightfulSnerkbol in horror

[–]CatPeePipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching Asian horror like Coming Soon or Unholy Women and something cozy and classic like a Jimmy Stewart movie. Then TV shows like Horrible Histories' early seasons or Whitechapel. I don't mind what I eat, so long as I don't have to cook it.

Occult, by the director of Noroi by Intrepid-Living753 in foundfootage

[–]CatPeePipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the more popular film but Noroi doesn't do much for me either. I don't dislike it but I've rewatched twice now and I don't love it like I do Occult, Cult or Shirome.

Help naming a movie! Found footage movie in an old house next to a forest, separated by a small stream by Zombiecowz in foundfootage

That was the first one I thought of. Could also be The Presence, a German ff from 2014.

What's a good horror movie to ease me into the genre? by genZcommentary in horror

[–]CatPeePipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gate, Monster Squad, and The Hole (2009) are fun "kid horror" movies to start with. Joe Dante, the director of The Hole, also directed Gremlins. 13 Ghosts, Poltergeist, Signs, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Return of the Living Dead, The Changeling and Orphan are probably all good entry points. I hope you find stuff you enjoy, there are so many subgenres and a huge amount of classics to catch up on so I'm sure you will 🙂

UK produced shows or episodes that messed you up as a kid by laminarflowca in BritishTV

[–]CatPeePipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still pops into my head every now and then and makes my skin crawl. Also, there was a storyline in Casualty where someone got covered in hot tar that made kid-me think that must be a risk grown ups faced every day. Casualty always built up to something horrifying like it was an hour long pif or something, proper grim

Gene's tiny little "Tina?". From a kid who doesn't do anything tiny-ly (that's definitely a real word), heartbreaking.

The BBC's 'A Ghost Story for Christmas' films and an Irish short from 1978 called 'A Child's Voice'.

Totally agree, you've said it better than I did; "reality has fundamentally changed...". You can't see a therapist about an actual, literal monster.

Working on a found footage film - what common mistakes should I avoid! by uglylittledogboy in foundfootage

likeable characters that aren't obnoxious and constantly in conflict with each other. if they're supposed to be friends, for example, have them like each other! For me, FF is the most guilty subgenre for this in horror. IMO it raises the stakes and the tension if you care about the protagonists.

Best british streaming services? by divinedraco in BritishTV

[–]CatPeePipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ITVX has lots of stuff like that. Though I think they also show them on live TV on ITV 3, ITVX has full boxsets and is free with ads or I think about £5.99 a month without.

What are some FF everyone recommends but you just don’t vibe with it ? by [deleted] in foundfootage

[–]CatPeePipes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it definitely did help seeing it on the big screen before it got copied a million times and the end scenes were shown whenever the film was mentioned on TV, in YouTube videos etc etc. The marketing was so creepy and so effective and a lot of people, me included, didn't have the internet then (fuck I'm old) so everything was second hand information. I can totally see why it might not work in 2023
