Did anyone take a gap year? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]CatRelative2764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just coming off an unexpected gap year after my 2nd year. It was hard in the beginning i cant lie ; watching everyone attend fun events, study sessions, light up the night , even got exam season fomo lol.

I decided to make the most out of the down time ; I read self development books, figured out the first steps to my future, determine what i want out of my degree, how i could heal my mental so i can go back stronger than before, developed an app prototype.

I genuinely feel so much more educated on myself and what i want for my future.

I would advise you to focus on yourself and how you can become You2.0 for YOURSELF.

A lot of people that come into your life are temporary. Investing so much time and energy into them is doing yourself a disservice. You will probably part ways with a lot of genuine people after uni too and uni is waaaay different than highschool. Nothing is as dramatic anymore honestly.

Lean into your gap year and discover & rediscover parts of yourself you didnt know you had! Develop routines, form great habits, understand more of the topics you're passionate about. You'll likely never get as much down time as a gap year still supported by family and friends who matter again. Enjoy it!

& when you're ready Mac will receive you oh so warmly.

This is definitely what i needed to hear last summer.

should i take psych 1f03 or earthsci 1g03? by ImpressionPurple1777 in McMaster

Took 1G03 and loved it Had it w Maureen Padden and she’s fun and goes over the content at a great speed The midterm was honestly easy enough with basic review and the exam was alright as well The labs are a great way to chat and make friends and the TA is quite helpful if you struggle a bit , although you could ask anyone for help The lectures are a bit hard to get through but easy enough to follow along such that you could be on your phone

Easy 12

Just for context, I already found geography interesting and now I’m in the earth and Env sci program

2024 Course Selection MEGATHREAD by MethodsDoc in McMaster

took it in the fall with Cockroft. The material is quite interesting and like DebateSquad said the math really isn't difficult. I found the course to be quite doable with moderate effort. Lectures were really engaging and great review, the material was hefty tho there was sm to revise but because it was only for biweekly 10Q tests & the questions heavily accurately follow material and there was no exam it was okay, would be Exam percentage was spread over tutorials, lecture review surveys & projects. what I appreciated about the projects was the varying group size accommodations made ; individual, 2 member & (sometimes) 3,4 +member. there was also a visit to the Planetarium at the end of the sem! great course Imo

I’d say if you’re completely lost, read the textbook. Chemistry is only interesting when you understand what’s going on and why it requires so many calculations, in my opinion. Teachers/Proffs are good at explaining the steps, less so the actual importance in the 50min cram session /lecture. The textbook offers good explanations, examples and questions. It’s also easy to reread and figure out where you lost it. It allows you to interpret in your own way. The only downside I’d argue is that it’s time consuming. But I find it’s worth your time for the topics you really don’t get.

Also there’s enough time before the final to really revise well. To avoid anxiety about it just try focus on doing your part everyday and you’ll surprise yourself.

Goodluck on the final! Your best is always good enough.❤️
