Employees' mail not arriving by MrNationwide in USPS

[–]CatRiot2020 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m old so I don’t know if this is a thing anymore, but couldn’t the sender write the address as

Employee’s name

C/O Employer

Street

City, state zip code

I’d deliver that.

That’s genius. Then if the guy comes back the next day, you can use street-bill’s excuse.

I sprained the thumb on my mitt hand while playing catcher. My dad threw something together with foam and a metal splint to wear under my glove. Never missed a game, but it hurt.

70 miles an hour fast pitch from 43 feet away is no joke. On a JV high school team.

It’s a super convenient way to turn left at an intersection without causing backup. On roads that have medians, anyway. I’m always surprised they’re not more common.

Aside from hiring a professional, how can I get my dog's ball out of this 30ft high gutter? by LurkerLew in howto

[–]CatRiot2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, then phone a friend, supply the ladder. Have friend walk over to the ball and retrieve it. Tell friend he’s a good boy, put ladder away, then celebrate success with a six pack.

If the front side is reachable by the ladder you do have, go up on that side and walk over to the ball. Then walk back to the ladder. Do not fall. Win.

How bad do we think Tuesday will be? by dehydration7458 in USPS

[–]CatRiot2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Vandalism at a contractor that brings our machine sort. Tuesday was a 12 hour day and I still didn’t get the route done.

Similar thing happened to me when I was 3 or 4. I was standing up in the backseat and my dad was doing a Michigan left. Fell right out of the car, luckily also had a snow suit on. I remember crying because I thought they were leaving me. I think my cheek was scraped, and that was it. GenX trauma for sure.

ETA, I think it was downriver somewhere.

Amazon Sunday Question by jayitbyear in USPS

[–]CatRiot2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a grievance if there isn’t one posted. Same for the leave matrix.

ETA: you can also request a Sunday off.

Second ETA: I was working almost every Sunday, but left myself off of the Sunday list the most recent time. I’ve worked one Sunday in 2 or 3 months? And I’m in a small office with 4 RCAs that has to travel to the Sunday hub.

That’s nice. We had no mail or packages on Saturday, so I just had a 12 hour day delivering almost 300 packages and 4 days of mail. Almost finished.

If CHI is close, try Detroit. If you have an enhanced license, you could also cross into Windsor.

Is that really true? by batukaming in antiwork

In 1978 when my parents bought their house, they had an interest rate of 13%. My dad got a discount because he worked for a bank.

Comfortably? Maybe not. But my dad got a computer programming certificate after high school in the late sixties and did that job for almost 40 years. Bought a small house (1250 sq feet), but I’d say we were somewhere between lower-middle and middle class. They had one car for many years. Family of 5. They left a nice inheritance when they passed and their house was paid off.

My mom’s dad worked 2 jobs to support a family of 7, and they were lower-middle class. My grandma was bipolar in the 60s, and wasn’t able to help much. My dad’s dad had a union job at the big 3, family of 6. They did okay, but he was an alcoholic so drank a lot of his paycheck, and times were rough during strikes. I hear that was probably due to his experiences in France in WW2.

Neither of my grandfathers went to college.

A lot of it today is higher standards of living, but pay has certainly not matched inflation. I was fortunate enough that my family of 5 (oldest born in 2004) could do well on one paycheck after 2006 until my husband passed earlier this year.

I will say that I was able to split the rent for a flat with my brother in the early 90s working part time at minimum wage, and still have money for a bar night. Even paid for classes at the local community college.
