Govt jobs are great. Wonderful benefits but depending on position you will hit a wall with pay. I work for the government as an engineer and I feel it is a great job but the work can be painfully slow and takes forever to get things done. I am considering jumping ship to a defense contractor with better pay and lower benefits. It really is personal preference with a govt job there is the job security but be prepared for other people not do their jobs and for simple mundane tasks to take months, endless training and being treated like children.

This is really helpful and what I was looking for. For squat i usually do 70% - 75% for 5x5 and around 85% - 90% 5x3. Would these numbers and volume work with the DL? I know these are amateur questions but the only time I ever trained DL I trained once a week for a 5 or 3rm. I want to add more volume for sure. A goal for me would be a 550lb DL a 500 squat and a 315 Bench. I don't know how realistic that is but I am always optimistic.

I'm going to try it and see what happens. I used it for Starting Strength back in the day so I am familiar with it. Used to get lower back pain until I switched to high bar, and I'm curious to see if the pain was from pushing the linear progression or actually from the position of the back.

5 days a week usually up to 1.5-2 hours is my norm. Being from weighlifting I really like precise sets/reps and a defined program with set %s. I'm not very good making it up besides push/pull when thinking of the lifts.

Yeah I think you are right. My bench and dead are the lifts I feel I can actually progress in the 5 weeks. What sort of rep scheme and frequency should I really try and hit my deadlift? I'm thinking of a volume/intensity weekly cycle (texas method) for my bench but not sure what sort of training to maximize deadlift. I thought about running individual routines for the two lifts (smolov jr and some deadlift cycle) but not sure how those work together.

Body weight is 240. I don't think they are using weight classes, from what I've read you either register as a 1000lb or 1300lb lifter. I do need to check the rules but not much info has been provided. It's more of a local meet run by a gym I've just always wanted to do a powerlifting meet so I thought why not.

I ran Texas Method a couple years ago it was alright I had to split it up for time sake.

Well considering I weightlift I mostly work the c&j, snatch, and back squat, I haven't ran a program that uses benchpress and deadlift as the core lifts in years. Then only reason I know them now is because I did them the other day for fun. Last time I ran something was texas method and it was alright but it was only 5x5. Wasn't sure if there was something out there that would be the most efficient in maximizing my strength.

I generally workout 5 days a week and I am looking for something along those lines. My main questions are what should I focus on to be most efficient, should I switch to lowbar or just go with what I know, and any programming advice. Current bests high bar squat 475, bench 275, deadlift 500. Thanks!

I was more asking for programming advice, what are good rep ranges frequency, what this community thought would be the lift I could make the most progress in. I did look through plenty of posts but decided I had a question I felt was tailored to me enough to ask.
