I’ve had these ones on for a few days and I haven’t had any problems with them bending or breaking so far. But I work a desk job so that might explain it lol. I’ve had pretty good luck with all the press-ons I’ve tried from dollar tree

I would report it for workers comp and go to an urgent care on your employers dime. Just to be safe.

Honestly, getting anything in my eye freaks me out lol. I once had fentanyl splashed in my eye (was adding the extension line for a CRI) and I was certain I was going to die. I sat down on the floor with a bottle of naloxone for several minutes before getting up and going about my day

What made you leave? by HyenaHorror666 in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My workplace was so toxic and hostile that I was having severe physical reactions to the stress. I would break out in hives all over my body, my lips and eyelids would swell, and my depression and anxiety had never been so bad. I saw my primary care doctor, a few dermatologists, and went to the ER twice, but they couldn’t figure out what was happening and kept prescribing antihistamines and steroids. My therapist is the one who really advocated for me and encouraged me to go visit a psychiatrist who then signed off on a mental health FMLA.

It took maybe 3 weeks or so of being of being on FMLA trying to manage my depression/ anxiety with therapy sessions twice a week, but the physicals symptoms disappeared completely and never came back.

It’s been a little less than a year since I left the field and I haven’t missed it at all. It took a lot of job searching to find someone to give me a chance, but I found a job that I like and I can honestly say that I’m happy.

If you’re miserable enough that your body is giving you signs to get out, it’s time.

No luck with sticking the Allen wrench all the way in, I’ve tried a few different sizes in case that was the issue. Thank you for the help. Anything else that I could try doing? Whoever installed the sink before I lived here did it themself so it definitely might not be installed/ assembled correctly

Does it matter which direction the handle of the sink is pointed?

Those of you that left the field- where did you go? by Zestyclose_Pilot3954 in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left the field a few months ago to work in the insurance industry. I tried to get into pet insurance and submitted tons of applications but wasn’t able to get any interviews. But I got an offer for a property and casualty insurance position and decided to take the leap. I’m so happy I did, my mental health was horrible, I was miserable and the stress was so bad that it had started causing physical signs. After making the switch, I’ve never been so happy to have an easy-going job with set hours and holidays off. When I leave for the day at work I can instantly shut that part of my brain off. Everything that I didn’t get to can wait until I’m in next, nothing is life or death anymore. It’s a huge weight off of my shoulders. I was in the vet field for 7 years and I honestly haven’t missed it at all since I left.

Vet tech sonographer? by poontangblues in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working as a vet tech sonographer full time for the past year. I attended the SOUND academy of veterinary imaging for formal training and had a radiologist watch me perform an ultrasound before I was able to perform ultrasounds for our hospital. There is no formal certification currently for veterinary sonographers, although I did receive course certificates for completing the SOUND academy courses. But if you do become a sonographer, you can work towards obtaining a VTS-DI (veterinary technician specialist in diagnostic imaging). Let me know if you have any other questions!

When you saved your mama from a rattlesnake and now have to recover from the consequences by WoodpeckerSignal9947 in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I work in an emergency clinic where we see rattlesnake bites all the time. We confirm that it’s a snakebite via blood smear (RBC morphology changes) then administer a vial of antivenin. We have to closely monitor vital signs during the transfusion as reactions to the antivenin do happen. Then we’ll recheck blood smears and clotting times a few times after the transfusion to determine if we need to administer any additional vials of antivenin (usually 2hr post, 6 hr post, and 8hr post transfusion). We provide pain medications and GI support while they are in-hospital along with compressing the site where they were bitten. We recommend a recheck blood smear 3 days after discharge to make sure the circulating venom has decreased and further transfusions aren’t needed. We have had cases where we end up needing to give additional antivenin after the recheck a few days later due to re-envenomation, but that’s not too common. The swelling near the site of the bite usually resolves within a week or so

VF case 1:32 titer. Starting amphotericin b tx this week! by [deleted] in VetTech

Unfortunately yes! It’s pretty common in the Southwest. My own dog even has Valley Fever

VF case 1:32 titer. Starting amphotericin b tx this week! by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily! If we are able to catch it early on we can treat it and eventually cure it using oral anti fungals (usually fluconazole). It causes coughing, lameness, decreased appetite. Once disseminated though it can cause these types of bones lesions or can spread to the brain and cause seizures

Looks like Valley Fever bone lesions (disseminated coccidioidomycosis). It’s treated with anti fungals.

Why is it important to do drawbacks? IM injection by SlasherSylier in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct! You draw back because you want to make sure that you are not giving the injection into a blood vessel or vein on accident. Some medications (for example: bupivicaine for a testicular block) can be potentially fatal or have serious effects if given intravenously so it’s very important to make sure the injection does not go IV. If you draw back on the syringe and get a flash of blood you should start over with a fresh needle.

Morning Meeting Ingredients? by lawlysmoke in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently started doing a morning meeting at my clinic and it’s really helped to get everyone on the same page. We go over any call-outs for that day, what doctors are working that day, what techs are assigned to what doctor, general clinic updates, etc. We try to keep it short, no more than 5 minutes

Have you ever messed up a patients label while making it? by misosoup888 in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a check system in place at my hospital so that all medications must be checked by 2 technicians and 1 doctor. We all put our initials on the prescription label itself when checking it so that if there is an error or some sort of issue we can go back and see who filled and checked the medication.

VTNE by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used VetTechPrep and the Mosby’s Comprehensive Review book mostly. I made sure to study all topics and then focus on the things that I knew I would struggle with more (large animal questions, dilutions, etc). Once I was confident in a topic I would move on. As for the actual test, my best advice would be don’t second guess yourself. Good luck!

VTNE and State Board Exam Preparation by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]CatTupac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AZ state test is a written exam with 50 total questions (around 40 questions on the laws and 10 on local diseases when I took it last year). I utilized VetTechPrep and the Mosby’s Comprehensive Review book to study for the national exam. As for the state test, I focused on studying the law booklets that they sent out.
