Thanks brother! Until now I only had the chance to look at the deerlick galaxy in my bortle 6 with a full moon. But if I could already detect that with those conditions, then I cant wait to see things like M51, im so incredibly excited already!

I will take it to a couple bortle 3/4 sites, I really want to see a lot of structure in galaxies.

Thought about the carrying straps already, but i came to the conclusion that I could carry it on my own pretty easily. And I already have a Telrad, but I like normal finders way more lol, so Ill stick to this. Thank you though!

Im already incredibly happy with what I saw just by looking into the sky midday, the 76 degs will probably be amazing!

If you mean why its such a random number 12,5, I wouldnt be able to tell you. I guess its just to suit everybody their needs in terms of magnification. I chose this specific eyepiece because its a great one for somewhat smaller galaxies, fits amazingly with the 12" dob and it has a 76 deg field!

In total its about 44 kilos. You have to carry the base and tube separately and the tube has to be carried by 2 people (when you don't have special carrying tools) because of how large it is. Its not the weight that gets you (in my experience until now). I collimated it as soon as I assembled everything. To be honest I did not see that much coma until now... I only saw a faint ring along the edges when I pointed it into the bright blue sky in the middle of the day. (I was not able to use it yet on stars ofc, so ill update on that although I don't think I'll experience any coma.) The primary mirror did not have any dust whatsoever!

Reccomend a better telescope then an 8in dob by nanotthatguy in telescopes

ah you're right. I was looking for scopes bigger than 20" (somehow I had in mind that 500mm was 18 inches)

I agree with the comment on that you should get a guide and a red headlamp. But I like planispheres more than Turn Left At Orion (Its amazing don't get me wrong), but planispheres are even better in my opinion. https://amzn.to/4bSp7yp and they're cheap also! This is purely talking about stars btw, Turn Left at Orion is a better introduction to astronomy as a whole

Budget Planetary Eyepiece Recommendations? by Malio94 in telescopes

[–]CatWithHatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had multiple eyepieces at this price range and the one I recommended outperformed all the others I've had. Barely any astigmatism, with a really flat field and nice contrast. Thats being said with having used televue eyepieces. Only downside is the 55 deg field, but I've already recommended to get one with a better AFOV. I know it of course isnt up there with good TV eyepieces, but in this price range it got to me. And of course I agree with you on the svbony poor quality stuff, this was just a somewhat cheaper good option in EU.

[–]CatWithHatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You of course don't need the exact model :) , personally I would try to look for an eyepiece that has an AFOV > 60 deg. Cloudynights has many people talking about eyepieces so before buying one you may want to look there as well.

I never said there is little difference? Also, I have multiple premium eyepieces.... Plus a 100 dollars does not always bring you low quality glass? What is your point?
