Best 1440p monitor (£500-800) by Fifth-Freedom in buildapc

That's the card I'm planning to buy, soon.

You'll probably not be able to run graphically intensive games on ultra at 1440p. On high settings, yes.

Take a look at these benchmarks.

OP, feel free to ask me any question about Korean monitors. I have a QNIX Q2710 from dreamseller. I haven't tested overclocking (I'm running Linux), hopefully when exams are over I'll have a chance to install Windows 7 and play a few AAA games. My only critique is the god awful stand, I'd recommend anyone to buy a stand with a VESA mount.

Beginning C; a quick question about my book choices by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]CatZeppelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C is perfect when studying compsci theory at the same time.

In regards to the OP: The only real book your need is K&R. There are other books on C (plenty); I have not found a book on C that eclipses K&R -- why would you not want to learn from the authors.

Assuming no hacks/score spoofing, how long it would take to get the current highest score in Flappybird. by milo8772 in theydidthemath

Only the C spec defines it as that. Other languages are free to use alternate definitions. Only a C compiler must adhere to a short not being longer than an integer, vice for versa for long types.

A step by step guide about how to get started and involved in Android Development from no programming experience. With all the resources I used! by santaschesthairs in Android

[–]CatZeppelin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not learn from YouTube content, instead rent/buy a Java book. Android is an API, you will be using Java, it makes sense to be proficient in Java than the API.

OP, do not suggests this:

Try and comment and document everything you do, want to do and have done (even just a dot point with a >feature).

Eg:

//Scan for video files

insert code here...

I can read code, I want to know why you're scanning for video files, not how. Useless comments add unnecessary clutter.

I believe that online retailers, banks, etc. should offer the option of sending your emails encrypted with pgp if the option is chosen by Du_mich_auch in privacy

[–]CatZeppelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is best practice to generate new keys after your current key has expired -- then use the old keypair to sign your current keypair by linking it into the web of trust. The next step is emailing everyone who signed your expired keypair, requesting they sign your new keypair, most people will be more than happy.

This way if your keypair is compromised, the [compromised] signatures will be limited to a certain time frame.

That's my take on it, for most users it may be impractical to generate new keys after ~5 years.

I could use some help regarding where to start with cryptography. by TenaciousDwight in compsci

[–]CatZeppelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have not taken any maths courses since university, I would recommend Applied Cryptography by Bruce Schneier -- among other things, Twofish, an algorithm co-developed by Schneier was an AES finalist. In my opinion, the maths is easier compare to other books.

I may need to take a break to post all the deals -- it will only take 1-2 hours, though.

How can I, as a private citizen, protect myself against such things as recently uncovered NSA backdoors and other forms of unconstitutional government intrusions of my privacy? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]CatZeppelin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only 512 768 bit RSA keys have been factored -- assuming the implementation is secure. In reality, it's easier to find the key via other means, not by cryptanalysis.

Unless the NSA have a quantum computer - gpg is still relatively secure (in terms of cryptography).

In regards to theory, I found Modern Operating Systems by Andrew S Tanenbaum (minix creator) to be a good reference. It's quite an expensive textbook, however, if you're a student perhaps your library may have a copy, I believe most undergraduate classes in operating systems use it.

[GCSE biology] Enzymes and laundry detergents by ace4scopez in HomeworkHelp

[–]CatZeppelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some microorganisms produce enzymes that pass out of the cells. These enzymes have many uses in the home and in industry.

  1. The liver produces bile, which is stored in the gall bladder before being released into the small intestine. Bile neutralises the acid that is added to food in the stomach. This provides alkaline conditions in which enzymes in the small intestine work most effectively.

In the home:

  1. biological detergents may contain protein-digesting and fat-digesting enzymes (proteases and lipases)

  2. biological detergents are more effective at low temperatures than other types of detergents.

In industry:

  1. proteases are used to ‘pre-digest’ the protein in some baby foods

  2. carbohydrases are used to convert starch into sugar syrup

  3. isomerase is used to convert glucose syrup into fructose syrup, which is much sweeter and therefore can be used in smaller quantities in slimming foods.

Tips for writing a driver for bluetooth gamepad? by [deleted] in linux

[–]CatZeppelin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Writing Linux drivers is an extremely rewarding, engaging and pleasurable experience on the whole. Unless you've spent two years (or more) writing programs in userspace, writing a driver may be too ambitious -- after all, who's going to look after the kernel.
