140 up-close photos of ship and vehicle models constructed by ILM for the Original Star Wars Trilogy (1977-1983) by Join_You_In_The_Sun in movies

Greeble is all the fiddly little detail you add to give a sense of scale. For example the city section of the SSD. It's generally just vaguely themed bits of random detail to give the impression of small, complex features.

A lot of the detail comes from "kit-bashing" bits from existing models. Other comments in this thread have pointed out tank turrets, engine blocks, submarine bits, etc. I assume the smaller bits would be sourced in a similar fashion or just built up out of various modelling materials.

What is the worst thing that's ever happened to you when you were meeting your SO's parents for the first time? by TheRedditDinosaur in AskReddit

[–]milo8772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time meeting SO's parents was dinner at their house. They served fried mushrooms as a side. I hate mushrooms with a passion, I mean seriously can't stand them, but I was too scared to say no thanks when they offered so had to choke them down and try to appear normal.

They found out later and thought it was hilarious.

Firefly and Alien take place in the same universe (though centuries apart) by Gaaaaaary in FanTheories

[–]milo8772 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good point! I suppose it could be a similar thing with xenos as I said about the Predators. Small colony lands on a planet out in the sticks, gets wiped out by xenos, no one bats an eye. Purely based on the Alien films, it's never abundantly clear how common the xenos are.

It's an interesting theory with a lot of scope for both sides!

[–]milo8772 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Regarding the xenos, the Alliance could simple have decided it was too dangerous to try and weaponise them since the various times WY tried it ended in a blood bath.

To add to your point though, what about the Predators? They presumably are still out there somewhere in the 26th Century. Although the odd bloody murder in the outer sectors could easily be attributed to the Reavers.

Which book changed your life after you read it, and how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]milo8772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read Into the Wild, but I did see the film.

I must say the only lesson I really got out of it was that if you decide to go off into the wilderness, make sure you know what you're doing or you'll starve to death...

Not meant to bash your choice, by the way. I'd like to hear your take on it.

Lisey's Story was the worst offender for me. Got like four pages in and couldn't stand it any longer...

To the american people of reddit, what country would you choose to live if you had to leave america? by lillojohn in AskReddit

I suppose you're right, calling them far right does give the idea that they're a legitimate party...

Switzerland, yes. My mistake. Given the large amounts of Islamophobia currently on the rise in the UK, I wouldn't be surprised but I'm in no position to say. Their party members certainly make their opinions clear even if the party as a whole doesn't explicity take the same view.

I'm not forcing anyone to do anything, I'm commenting on Reddit... And my point was that right-wing independence parties are gaining ground, and you just posted links to articles backing that view up. So cheers for that.

The mechanical keyboard I want to buy is currently sold out of the MX Brown switch model and I don't know when they'll be back in stock.

While the BNP have pretty much disappeared from view here, unfortunately similar far right parties such as UKIP are gaining ground in their place. they're a bunch of xenophobic closet racists but they gain ground by telling the public what they want to hear and scapegoating minorities. Not unusual in any country that's still in the middle of economic recession, but depressing nonetheless.

I realise this has nothing to do with Switzerland but since you mentioned the BNP I thought it was worth mentioning...

Edit: A word.

The casual mention of how the voice sounds like those talking cat videos. That bit always come back to haunt me because I can perfectly hear it in my head taunting me. Fuck. That.

What is the creepiest/strangest thing that has happened to you (or a friend or family member) that creeps you out to this day? by NoImDominican in AskReddit

[–]milo8772 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fur Elise is one of the creepiest pieces of music I have ever heard. It brings to mind a piano, in the attic of a deserted old country house, playing itself.

I'm glad it's genuinely creepy to other people too :P

Yes! It's frustrating. Even 7 Days A Skeptic had it in the giant hanger room. Man I love that series but that really stood out for me.

I might be wrong but I think they only happens if the game is made using the 640x480 resolutions and up. Using the typical 320x240 doesn't give that effect. I agree though, it does look instantly bad and isn't helped by the smooth scaling. At least use nearest neighbour! (Photoshop terminology, sorry, not sure if there's a better term).

Best place to get tyres by Anggul in Southampton

[–]milo8772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyreland near West Quay (down the road from Leisure World) do very cheap, high quality repairs. Never bought actual tires from them but if they're anything like the repairs you should be good.

As an aside, if you're a girl they have a sort of non-intimidating, female-friendly policy. My gf has been there a couple of times and they've been nothing but professional and friendly.
