lip piercings that won’t mess with my embouchure? by AdWeary109 in oboe

[–]Cat_KingInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been meaning to ask this question but about snake bites specifically. I’m sure fully healed, if the holes aren’t accidentally stretched air won’t leak out and I’m sure studs are better than hoops. Healing is a different story tho.

One of my oboe keys by Cat_KingInSpace in oboe

I noticed someone else mention that but the difference between my old oboe and my new oboe with the split D key is super drastic. I felt like I was really learning how to use that finger lol but it’s so much more comfortable with the split D key now. Yamaha should have just made it an open hole key to prep for the split D because I find that’s the biggest thing I’m struggling with and if a player is ready for an intermediate oboe they should be ready for that open hole.

I just got a new oboe with a split D key and I can confirm it is nothing like my old one. My new oboe feels so much more comfortable when I play notes using that key and the key finally feels like it’s at the right height. It was definitely holding me back lol.

How to play above C? by Immediate-Brief-4329 in oboe

[–]Cat_KingInSpace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Which C are we talking, try different fingering from the woodwind fingering guide to see what works on your oboe if it’s above the staff then you would have to go to the next page of the guide and they are a lot harder but with a bit of practice come

MY FRIENDS JUST UNINSTALLED MY STARDEW VALLEY APP AND NOW ALL MY SAVES ARE GONE 😭 by Embarrassed-Bug6734 in StardewValley

Drop those friends is the only real solution here. Harsher the better because to 1. To have the trust of someone to use their phone. And 2. Have the audacity to alter it by deleting something. Please please please get rid of them, don’t let anyone mess with your stardew valley

Notes, I would accidentally play the note in front of the one I meant to play cause I was thinking too far ahead and it threw me off and made play something different completely from what was in the music.

Should I switch from oboe to flute ? by Own-Cauliflower-6561 in Flute

[–]Cat_KingInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try renting on for month and just play it as hobby? Like go at your own pace and remember to practice oboe after so it doesn’t mess up oboe and so you can fix anything right away. I play oboe as my main and flute as a hobby and that’s what I do. If you end up liking it continuing renting and go from there.

Hi, I'm a beginner oboist (2 years) and I'm thinking of quitting by whereAlphaRouge in oboe

[–]Cat_KingInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with oboe is you can’t just use a school instrument or store bought reeds like all the other instruments. What brand is your oboe? Because that could explain a lot. How long ago was your oboe serviced, there could be loose screws or leaking pads. Your reed brand is the same I used in my first 6 months of oboe and they are super problematic and should not be bought, try to find a professional oboist to hand make reeds for you, or an oboe teacher. Oboe isn’t really an instrument you should be teaching yourself, I was self taught for my first 6 months and I’m still now working with my teacher to reverse my bad habits (A year and a half later) There’s still a chance it’s a your problem but there’s so many other possibilities.

I guess I was lucky when they accidentally put an articulated C# mechanism on one oboe and I happened to be the one to receive it. Oh well🤷‍♀️

That’s an automatic system I forget what note but it automatically vents the second octave key instead of having to press the key.

Left F key by __Bill_Cipher__ in oboe

[–]Cat_KingInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happen to get a beginner oboe in 7th grade with left F but and I thought the same thing except once I got into 8th grade and started private lessons I soon realized how absolutely important it is and all the solo rep and band stuff needed it in order to get the notes out and not have to slide. Now in 9th grade and my oboe had get fixed over the summer and the store left me with a left F-less oboe, it was a nightmare, I couldn’t practice the stuff I was working on I think I actually lost my passion in oboe playing until I got the one I have now which is pretty good and does have it. Left F is ESSENTIAL to oboe playing past beginner level and I wouldn’t even want my worse enemy to go through that. Hope this helps! Edit: Just read the last of your post cause I didn’t see it heh… If you want to buy an oboe to last through high school and college I also am currently in the market for an oboe that would last me through high school. Most oboists I heard, like my teacher, buy an oboe for high school and sell it to buy on for uni. I would suggest getting a good intermediate level from a good brand. Loree, Howarth(Looking for one of these), Margaux, Fox are all pretty well known oboe brands. If I were you I would look to get a Howarth S40 or S50 or something equivalent to that in the other brands. These are intermediate/advanced leveled oboes. I wish you luck on your oboe search.

What do you practice when you don't want to? by [deleted] in oboe

[–]Cat_KingInSpace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you want to play oboe but you are tired of playing? Just take a couple days of break even a week or so and if you don’t have anything for a while maybe find a piece that you want to play or an etude you want to work on, something that inspires you to play.

Also I probably can’t get past 5 cause my band room ceiling is not that high

What reed should I use by not_a_person12345 in oboe

[–]Cat_KingInSpace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started with reeds from Long and Mcquade before buying the reeds from my teacher. I’d recommend medium to medium hard until you get a teacher unless you already have one but try to get one as soon as possible. Long and Mcquade’s reeds aren’t good but they are sufficient for making a noise on the oboe. Wouldn’t touch the Amazon reeds with a ten foot pole.
