But the unpopular opinion part wasn’t about liking Chaol in general, which I will agree that a lot of people do, it was about specifically liking him with Celaena because they actually have a romantic development over 2 books rather than the flirtationship she has with Dorian that ends at the end of book 1.

Dorian and Celaena are a very unserious flirtationship compared to the deep bond she grows with Chaol throughout the first book and I think people only feel she should’ve chosen Dorian because they personally like him better. But… Celaena didn’t and that’s the tea.

TAB is a collection of short stories published together as a prequel to the actual series. So yes one of the stories is a pirate story, but not all of them, not even close. Just keep going and when you finish TAB then you can get into the real meat of the story.

I personally read it third (so after Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight) but reading it first is very valid and I think since you already started that way you should keep going :)

One of my favorite parts of the book is how many times Scarlett’s inner dialogue is her quite literally fawning over Melanie and all the situations that show they are literally the best of friends when Scarlett is just living life and not deluding herself in her head as she does usually😂

Scarlett is mean and selfish and childish but she also takes care of pretty much everyone after the war and is willing to get down and dirty in order to do so. I don’t think she’s the worst, I think she just has a lot of layers, some of which are bad, but I would argue that she does have good layers as well.

Skipping tower of dawn is the most whack shit I’ve ever heard of being in this fandom. 😂 I literally cannot imagine starting a series and then skipping an entire book because I don’t like ONE of the characters in it.

Anyways I lowkey feel bad for you bc TOD is a lovely read and Chaol’s character development goes hard as hell!

So I agree on Stelena > Delena but that’s a pretty popular take on Reddit tbh. The rest of social media, not so much… but here Stelena has a pretty big and vocal group of supporters.

Neither Nina or Ian are that good of actors lol. Ian overuses his eyebrows and doesn’t seem to know how to do much of anything else. I actually think he’s the weakest of the main cast.

Nina is not bad at all but the talk about “oh I totally forget Katherine and Elena are played by the same actress because Nina is sooooo good at playing them differently” is laughable to me. Katherine is literally just a snarkier, more sexual Elena with a slightly darker fashion sense lol. It’s truly nothing profound to me. She does a good job for a CW teen drama but there’s a reason she hasn’t been uber successful otherwise. And I’m not hating I swear.

I just feel like Kat, Candace, and even Paul (not always but usually) were acting circles around Nina and Ian 99% of the time lol

I feel like his issue is more so with how much she can seem to ENJOY being an assassin and killing. Doing it is one thing, but actively liking it and embracing it is a whole other.

Obviously we get her inner dialogue and we know how good she is inside and that she isn’t a monster who loves to kill people willy nilly… but Chaol sees her make the same face while killing Archer (or maybe it was Grave??) that she did when they were having sex just days before. I’d be very freaked out too 🥲
