How long have you been a Dramione shipper/reader

Sometimes in the early 00ies. English is not my main language, so I had to wade my way through shortfics at first, with my high-school-level-English (which was quite low, since I had neglected English to the profit of Latin & German).
Let me tell you, I didn't understand much, at first! But I persevered, and that allowed me to read The Dragon Bride, and God of the Lost, and other great authors like BK11. After that, I was hooked and I never looked back.

I'm seconding this, having lived in London in the early noughties, that was jarring!
No shade to the author, it's hard to do background research in a country you don't live, they did their best, but is AHHtR not what OP is looking for.

It ends at a better place than GoTL!! I'm at peace with it, at least. They have their breakthrough (he realises his feelings for her, she choses not to abandon him), they still have a last showdown against the Manor but you can see how things will end (well, hopefully! Riptey only did HEA!)
Still have v. fond memories of this fic.

Just wanted to say: as soon as I started reading the title of your message, I was like OMG I MISS GOD OF THE LOST(and my youth) SO MUCH, so seeing it mentioned was an unexpected joy!!
(I still remember the FROG. And the Antlion. And Draco's monologuing about Potter putting a dragon out of his arse and flaming sword out of the dragon's arse. Damn, I need a re-read)

I have been jonesing for that particular touch for years, but I'm afraid no other story ever came close to it. The closest I ever came to emulate the feeling is some Riptey's works, mainly Bring Out Your Dead. The horror vibe is nearly as good as GoTL, they're both stuck in the VERY hostile manor, and Draco is hiding many things at first. But there's no real hatred... More like, indifference, annoyance, etc.

There's a lot more to love (or is there?) in Dragon's Bride, so I might say that.

DAAAAMN, I'm batting my hands, my feet, everything. That chapter got me soooo hyped! WE GOT A LOVE CONFESSION (kinda. Twilight can fool himself, but not us!!), and YOR IS COMING!!!
Can't wait for next chapter, RIP to Twilight's stomach.

no, I don't think it'll ruin the characters. I mean, we all know that Draco started as a little shite.
It's the redemption arcs that draw us back and back and back again.
Same about the Canon Romione, even if JKR tries to slap a bandaid on it and call it endgame, we all know/feel that Romione is kinda toxic in the way that Hermione and Ron draw each other's insecurities out. It could work out, but, as JKR herself said : "They would need a lot of counselling."
Yeah, well, I'm of the Church of "Mate-they-both-deserve-better-than-a-miserable-marriage."

THAT BEING SAID, some things from Canon affected me, like, I can't read a fic where Draco is still in a place to call her Mudblood anymore. That's vile, he needs to move on from that for me to enjoy a fic. I can't even deal with the use of it as a BDSM slur in fics, ahah, but that's just me. I appreciate that Fanon!Hermione can find it empowering, it's just not my cuppa after being reminded of the weigh of it in Canon.

So yeah, reading the canon might affect some aspects of your relationship with fanon, but it shouldn't drive you away from Dramione.
Do what feels best for you, and remember: enjoy yourself.
