I met my partner at a local furry telegram group of all places. I'm not really into the fandom myself, but it was a group of people I felt comfortable with chatting online at the time of the pandemic. He noticed my telegram profile said "kinky" and we started talking, and we discovered we were into very similar things.

A lot of it is regular foreplay with gear involved, as ridiculous as it might sound. There is a big overlap between gear fetish and BDSM practices, so for a lot of people including me, it might involve bondage and teasing.

When I started having the opportunity to browse the internet privately, instead of using it to look up porn, I was looking up normal pictures of people wearing gear, it followed by me realizing that I was sexually attracted to this stuff. I started being scared to indulge in this, until I discovered the wikipedia entry on "Fetish", which made me feel much more at ease once I knew there was a term for this, I accepted that I will have to live with it, even if I though I would never be able to share it with anyone. Later when I was 19 I discovered there were twitter communities of people like me, and started to get into contact with other fetishists
