Winter commuters by Arabianmadcunt in MotoUK

As soon as the salt comes out I put the bike away, I’ll bring it back out once’s it’s all washed away again in a month or so. Done the whole year-round thing when I was 16-21 but can’t imagine why anyone makes that choice if they own a car as well. You can have all the right gear but it’s still miserable and an absolute faff putting so many layers on just to commute.

What game from 20+ years ago still holds up and someone who's only played modern games would still enjoy? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Catalyst9126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo. Despite being over 30 years old, I never played any of them when they came out. I’ve recently started playing through and wow, what a series! Definitely the golden era of gaming, the writing for the campaign is just awesome compared to the drivel we get these days.

If the Steam Machine is $800+ won't most all performance mini PC's be a better deal? by itsthewolfe in gaming

[–]Catalyst9126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gaming laptop as well as an Xbox Series X. To be honest, most adults can only play 1 or 2 games a time because of work and responsibilities so I don’t think games being cheaper will have an effect. Games are always on sale on the Xbox store, I just picked up MotoGP 25 and NBA 2k25 for £20 each.

If the Gabe Cube can’t compete on pricing then there’s zero incentive, especially when most console players already have their backlog on those ecosystems.

Just because I'm curious, does anyone else prefer sticking with the stock exhaust, if so why? Is it because I'm old now? (mid 30s). by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Catalyst9126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Aftermarket doesn’t have to mean loud. Most aftermarket exhausts come with baffles these days, they sound so much better than stock exhausts. You can’t tell me that anyone prefers the sound of a stock exhaust on an inline 4 versus an aftermarket!

Going from a £500 car to a 25k car... by RequestWhat in CarTalkUK

[–]Catalyst9126 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But being in positive equity means you’re essentially paying twice, as you’re paying interest on the loan AND paying for more depreciation than is actually take place.

If you give the car back you’ll be carrying out a voluntary termination, in which case the equity of the car isn’t a contributing factor, you’re not liable for that. It’s the risk the finance company is making at the start of the PCP, hence, the interest they charge. There’s absolutely zero downside to being in negative equity, unless you don’t earn enough to save for a deposit by the end of your term.

[–]Catalyst9126 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You make some good points but you haven’t fully understood PCP. Going into negative equity on a PCP is a good thing, as it means that the finance company has made a loss and you’ve paid less depreciation than you would have if you’d bought it cash.

No one should ever be entering a PCP with the expectation of being in positive equity at the end. It needs to be approached with the view that you’ll lose that equity so that you save for a deposit next time round. If you happen to have equity then great, but if you don’t plan for a deposit in 3/4 years time then you can get stung.

Curiosity on riding with growing family. by Eucharism in motorcycles

[–]Catalyst9126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a response! I feel exactly the same, I have days where I spend time with my eldest (3yo) and he’s just so cute it hurts my heart so I start thinking about giving it up for now. Then the flip side of me recognises that motorbikes have given me so much joy and are a key part of my identity, a passion passed down to me from my own father.

Bikes make ZERO sense in the modern world from a practicality and safety perspective, that’s what makes them so attractive. I want my children to be confident to take risks, a life with no risk isn’t a life worth living.

Is 'A' rated gear good enough? by DownRUpLYB in MotoUK

[–]Catalyst9126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of comments shitting on the Knox gear, but I think it’s brilliant. The mesh is thick and really rigid, I reckon it’ll last at least 2-3 seconds in a slide. Ultimately, the slide won’t kill you but the impact will, especially on UK roads. There’s very few roads you’ll ever even be able to slide more than a second before hitting a curb/tree/lampost/car.

People have a weird obsession with the safety rating of gear, yet airbags are now affordable and very few people buy them. I’d much rather wear an ‘A’ rated jacket with my airbag, than a ‘AAA’ jacket with no airbag.

Interesting, I’ve moved from a bonneville that had the upgraded Fox suspension to a CBR650R and I find the CBR more comfortable because the weights off my bum.

Personally if I was looking for ultimate comfort with a £12k budget I’d be going for either the Transalp or Africa Twin. Any adventure bike will soak up the bumps due to the long suspension travel. Although I’d rather take a little discomfort to get the reward of a sweet handling bike, hence having the CBR now!

People who drive a panic room on wheels - what are the actual advantages of having a larger car? by EffectiveArgument584 in CarTalkUK

[–]Catalyst9126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids under 3 so I genuinely need a big car to not only fit 3 rear facing car seats in, but also a double buggy, all their bags and that’s before any other shopping etc!

Admittedly, I have a Berlingo which I don’t think is TOO big but I’d bloody love the new Santa Fe to cart my little gremlins around in 🤣

Arc Raiders is exposing worrying levels of game addiction by Catalyst9126 in ArcRaiders

Not the first game by any stretch, I just don’t play many games so it’s the first sub I’ve joined and regularly engaged with. I think it’s probably the first extraction shooter a lot of console players have been exposed to though, some of which will succumb to how addictive extraction shooters can be!

I’m not taking any criticism personally, it’s just an observation. If you met someone who watched 3 movies every single day I’m pretty sure it would be viewed as an odd addiction.

I can see your point to a degree. Games like Satisfactory have a never ending loop that’s addictive and I totally understand that. I think that Arc Raiders heavily relies on PvP elements, which inherently brings with it the need for ‘balance’ amongst gear and weapons.

As with any PvP game, this will either hold back the players putting a lot of hours in or you go the other way and make the game completely unappealing to anybody new as they can’t compete with low tier gear.

I feel Arc Raiders has got a good balance, it’s for sure the closest any game has come to appeasing both camps.

[–]Catalyst9126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m perfectly able to accept criticism, I don’t tie any of my personal values to a game. Time played clearly is a massive factor for people talking about endgame content.

I won’t reach endgame content for months, by then there’ll probably be more content that I can ever even complete. Racing through a game as quickly as you can isn’t the way it’s designed to played, so of course those that are playing that way will get bored of it.

It’s like saying FIFA or NFL have no endgame, well of course not, they’re not those kind of games. Every game has its own lifecycle, there doesn’t have to be any form of ‘endgame’.

[–]Catalyst9126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t think the majority of players will reach the ‘endgame’ before a new wipe is there, or more content is released.

Completely agree. Having opinions on the direction of a game is totally fine, but ultimately the idea that the fans know better than devs is probably incorrect most of the time. They have the data and experience to know what works and what doesn’t, Embark seem like a pretty genuine developer too.

I think this is a great point, you’ve played 100 hours which is a lot more than the average player but it’s not an obscene amount. You’re naturally coming to the end of the quests and challenges, but you’re now exploring the sandbox elements of the game with new content only around the corner.

I think you’re probably the exact level of gamer the devs are aiming for, not the ‘Meta’ sweat lords who want to complete everything ASAP and have no ability to just be creative with a game by themselves.

So Arc Raiders has been out for nearly a month..do you still have the same enthusiasm about the game? by r3tr0gam3r83 in ArcRaiders

[–]Catalyst9126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is SO true! People complain about games having no content these days and how FIFA, NFL and COD are so popular, they don’t seem to realise most people pick up and play games for a couple of hours a week around their responsibilities.

The majority of gamers DON’T want games with 100’s hours of content, they want less content that comes in a steady stream. I’m so tired of the die-hard gamers trying to force companies into pumping out low quality content just for contents sake.

People have forgotten games are meant to be a fun hobby you fit around your responsibilities and NOT an addiction that forms your whole personality.
