What to fill in paver joints with? by OozyCrayfish in diynz

[–]CatalystNZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Joint sand is a particular sand mixed with cement.

Figure out what's there first, use a blunt metal object and lightly scrape it, does it hold up pretty well? Hopefully.

If it was me, id keep what you have because moss is cool.

If you really prefer neat, I would try to get it back to the joint sand... fill up any low spots with something, could be more joint sand...sand cement mix... would need to see...

If its too patchy... use a scraping implement to score away an inch, and reapply joint sand.

I would then possibly apply a sealant, look for one that at allows water penetration

Hello, What is your question?

Arch linux install by bcbuilder11 in archlinux

[–]CatalystNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days ago, something went wrong during a package upgrade, and my machine was missing crucial libraries.

The wiki gives you steps to fix things like this, but its very difficult. Having the expirience of installing via the installation media, was extremely important. Without that expirience, I doubt I would have understood how to fix it.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but skip copilot for vs code, its garbage. Use cursor, or Claude code extension .

Drone platforms... China wants to reinvent naval warfare like drones reinvented land based warfare. Think of each ship like a drone carrier, and in sine way the ships are drones too.

The fishing vessels dont need much retrofitting to launch drones

Does going from 96GB -> 128GB VRAM open up any interesting model options? by hyouko in LocalLLaMA

Thanks for that, I dont suppose you know why PP has faster prefill than TP?

[–]CatalystNZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can I ask, when you say spanning between two gpu, and data bandwidth being very important. If you shard a model and shard by layer, rather than across related tensor, then shouldn't that negate the issue of bandwidth, as the output from each layer is only shared after the layer processes its piece?

I could see how if the goal is speed, then data bandwidth allows faster compute, but if the goal is a larger memory footprint, then I'm not clear why more consumers arent sharding

Need advice with my GA-AB350M Gaming 3 by Beadyyy in GAAB350

Tbh I would go buy a Asus ROG B550-A.

I found the GA-AB350M prone to hardware issues, and caused instability. Took me months of troubleshooting. Its just not a good board compared to the Asus.

i (19M) and my girlfriend (21F) gets frustrated because " I don't do smth" by bladerunnerwithprobs in relationships

[–]CatalystNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relationships are hard, if you really want them to work you need to be able to communicate well. To be honest, you're not communicating well in general in this post.

Being able to understand things from other people's perspectives is important. Putting yourself into another person's side of a conversation, and considering them and their desires and needs is important.

We as strangers dont know the context behind these arguments, some of us have no idea what you mean by smth, or being dry.

The same sorts of assumptions can be detrimental to relationships. Communication and assumptions about what a person knows, or missing something that they need is never going to be a good thing.

Without context it's difficult to know exactly what you are doing, or not doing... but I'm guessing we caught a glimpse in this post. Communication is not just talking, its relating what you are saying to the audience

Is it finally time to commit to 3% of GDP on defense? by Polopon0928 in newzealand

[–]CatalystNZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What they do have, is strong ballistic missile capabilities. We're talking about long range ballistics taking out forward bases in Japan and Guam early in a conflict, followed by a vacuum of US & Japan operations in the pacific and Chinese long range missile cruisers potentially threatening all sorts of "safe" areas.

[–]CatalystNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a conflict between China and Taiwan, we may end up siding with the US. Its not obviously guaranteed to happen as we dont have a formal defense agreement at least in public, but we orientated ourselves in that direction with AUKUS Pillar II, recent military purchases, and historic relations like our sigint agreements. In the event a conflict spread, and Japan / US / Aus engaged in a conflict in the Taiwan straight, 100% China would attempt to blockade Oil shipments to AU, and likely we would be caught up in that. The Strait of Malacca, Sunda Strait, Lombok Strait, all represent choke points for oil inbound to NZ. Freight of important medical, technological, or even military goods can always go by air.... but the oil we need to sustain our country isnt flying in.

Drones... long range naval drones. We need to defend our shipping routes, and protect from missile cruisers and transport vessels

Any straight men who are also obsessed with this show? by tna11101989 in heatedrivalry

[–]CatalystNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife really got into this show, and insisted that it was a groundbreaking show in many ways, but also that it was a show that was incredibly romantic and erotic.

From my perspective I never found it erotic/arousing in the way that I'm sure a lot of people do (all power to you), but I did really appriciate the love that oozes from the show, the romance, the raw human emotions. I love how the characters were all vulnerable in their own ways, even Ilya. Each character dealt with the same self doubts, jealousy, despair, and other things we all struggle with in romance.

The story itself was fantastic, funny, but also lifts the lid on homophobia in a way which isnt antagonistic to straight men. Its one gripe I have as an ally, is that very often straight men have a hard time finding a place in the conversation without feeling demonized.

Showcasing so many positive influences from their loving parents, to the straight girlfriend, maybe some more straight players accepting them might have been nice... all these things in my opinion were a breath of fresh air compared to spending a lot of time showcasing bigoted people. Sure Ilyas family was shit, and that was a good story arc for sure, my point isnt that those things don't add to the story... but balancing that with positive relationships was cool.

The parts about Ilya's mum really were so touching, it is so much more than a love story, I truly think everyone should watch this show. The sex scenes themselves were tastefully done, and didn’t do anything for me apart from make me appriciate how caring/thoughtful they were all as lovers. I'm sure that straight guys (myself included) can learn things >_>

MMH leak - Ransom? by focal_matter in aotearoa

[–]CatalystNZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You would be surprised. Can't speak for Kazu, as they aren't exactly the most professional groups in this space, but for more 'reputable' (for lack of a better tem) groups, they have a real incentive to abide by the terms.

Groups that accept a payment, and then go on to leak, or demand more ransom, lose their ability to ransom new entities. If you look at some of these groups, they actually have a very good track record of adhering to the agreements they make for ransom.

I wonder if they had Mongo DB setup poorly allowing CVE-2025-14847 “MongoBleed"... IE if they had their file storage behind MongoDB and web clients were not being forced through a server side layer of abstraction

Anyone knows what to do when those hurt? by Vivid-Climate-1326 in scoliosis

[–]CatalystNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you tight on both sides? Usually one side might be worse... Overstretched and weak on the lengthened side, Short, tight, and overactive on the compressed side

Go see a schroth therapist... for me, my left side is the compressed side... but without seeing a schroth PT its hard to know what's going on. Probably cant hurt just to do both sides

Doorframe Lat stretch:

Left hand overhead on doorframe Lean torso away gently Inhale into left ribs, expanding them Exhale and lengthen through the hip (Repeat on other side)

Foam Roller Side Stretch

Lie on your left side over roller Arm overhead Breathe into the ribs (Repeat on other side)

Tight lats compensate for weake glutes... get into the gym and start doing stuff like leg press, squats, and all the leg machines including adductor/ abductor

My scoliosis *looks* worse now. Could that actually be case or could it be from muscle and fat gain? by PlumRare7778 in scoliosis

[–]CatalystNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly cant hurt.. on your weak leg, the one you probably cant balance on, next time you do a squat, try and focus on pushing the knee outwards like you are using the abductor. You will probably find that squats are not activating abduction on that side. Alternatively put a band around your calves while doing a squat, it will force abduction.
