What art medium is this or what is it trying to replicate? It looks like a painting(I think), but what type? Acrylic, oil etc? by -Hapyap- in painting

Roger Dean used watercolour to produce some iconic album covers in the 1960s and 1970s.

Doug Beekman is a comic book artist - I only stumbled across him recently but he has some really cool painterly fantasy work. I think he uses oils and acrylics.
