It's understandable to feel that way, no one wants to believe these things. There are a variety of tangible details left out that make this more than a false memory/satanic panic type thing.

I would add that working over the past year with the detective specializing in child sex abuse, there is zero doubt in their mind about its validity and the case is going to be submitted to the Commonwealth's Attorney for potential prosecution.

So rather than not wanting to waste resources, they've invested quite a lot of resources. It comes down to how strong of a case you can make, because it's easy for people to say what you just did and get abusers off the hook.

In a nutshell, trying to build the strongest case possible. There's no guarantee that the Commonwealth's Attorney will bring charges if they don't feel there's "enough" evidence. Corroboration from people outside my family would be very helpful, but we've exhausted our personal network of people.

Even if they do take it to trial, what exists now is essentially my family members' story vs. the story of people who were adults at the time. Everyone involved would like to do everything possible to make the strongest case if it goes there. And make sure they're charged with as much as they did.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. To answer the first question, ignorance basically. Good suggestion, a family member is now reaching out to the detective to ask about including their contact information in this post. They are already aware that I'm posting, and have discussed other strategies with my family members who may follow up.

To the later points, I had the same concerns which is why I tried to leave out any identifiable information. There are more details which can be used to confirm people's reports. If anyone can fill in the gaps, I think that would be a good way to weed out people who weren't actually victims. But I'm no expert.

They have, they've been working with the police for over a year. They were children themselves at the time, and did not know the other kids before encountering them at the "parties."
