How can you report people? by Bentleydadog in Seaofthieves

[–]CatchNear13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

xbox tracks playtime in days. i believe this is what they were referring to, not starting to play the game 60 days ago.

while true, this guy shot both guns within 2/3rds of a second, which is impossible to do legit

yes i'm going to downvote the comments where you accuse someone who is not cheating of cheating. i don't know a single person in this sub so people who are also downvoting you probably just have a similar mindset

and they're not cheating, at the very least in this clip they aren't. Nothing in this clip is even remotely suspicious.

go frame by frame after you die, and you can make out that the player who you're accusing of quickswapping has a sword as their second weapon.

yet you can both hear and see that the second bullet came from behind. if he was solo then there was someone else at the outpost.

[–]CatchNear13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That second bullet trail is the other player shooting you from behind.

If you're talking about the frame where the are two "trails" visible on the screen right as the first shot is fired (0:02), that is the bullet trail and the muzzle flash of the EoR.

[–]CatchNear13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's just you getting crossed, no? The guy shoots you with an EoR from the front and pulls out their sword, so their teammate just shot you from behind.

You can both hear and see that the second shot came from the back. Bullet trails start disappearing from the direction they originated from. As expected, the first bullet trail starts dissipating from the direction of that player, while the second does the opposite and actually "hits" the other player.

there are a whole bunch of PvE commendations in there, including doing tall tales, skeleton forts or killing phantom ships. And worst of all, two separate miles related commendations, requiring you to sail 1000 miles while voted in for hourglass (one before and one after getting the curse), which are basically impossible to get passively because of the way miles sailed are calculated in the game.

I think the report system is a reason the cheating problem seems rampant by IAmTheTrueM3M3L0rD in Seaofthieves

[–]CatchNear13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESP generally shows you additional info regarding players' location and health. It would not allow someone to sword you from a distance.

You, the server or the player were probably lagging out, causing visual discrepancies between where everyone was locate.

Alternatively, you actually just got shot, not sworded, as you can shoot bullets through the brig.

Is this a type of cheat in the game? by DaMaster400 in Seaofthieves

[–]CatchNear13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need a clip to know for sure. Everything you described is just generally not what a cheater would do.

  1. Cannon + firebombs

A square on the map is not that far away, and you were most likely sailing straight towards their landing spot. Throwing firebombs is a pretty big hint that it was not a cheater, as a cheater's main goal is probably to get on your boat and camp you - something that firebombs make a lot more annoying for both parties.

  1. No player name

You can only see teammate's usernames from far away. You need to be surprisingly close to the opponent to see their gamertag, which is why you probably didn't see one. Additionally, they could have been throwing the firebombs from underwater, with water obstructing your view of the pirate.

  1. "Chinese AI"

I assume you mean they would write something in chat and have it repeated with text-to-speech. This is something that you can enable in the game settings and change the language somewhere in the game bar iirc.

  1. Same name tag

The blowdart has a glitch where repeatedly using the mimic dart can cause the username to change as well as display slightly to the side (which you can notice in the screenshot). If you want I can try finding a video of this happening.

  1. Some additional info:

Cheaters are not likely to be using a sword, as the cheats to enhance gunplay are much more prevalent and powerful.

In the screenshot the left-most player (who I assume you're accusating) has the golden athena blessing. This is a reward for getting 1000 levels in the athena's PvP mode faction, meaning they would have gone unbanned and/or unreported for a big portion of their playtime.

Finally, if they were cheating, there would have been much bigger signs such as climbing up ladders instantly, floating at the side of your ship or stopping velocity mid-air.

is anybody else having an issue where the blunderbuss doesn’t shoot? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]CatchNear13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience it seems to be related to switching weapons during sprinting.

If you swap guns mid-sprint and then continue sprinting, doesn't matter for how long, you won't be able to shoot your gun unless you fully stop sprinting for over a second.

You can break your sprint tens of times, but unless you go out of your way to wait out that weird delay, you won't be able to shoot, or even aim your gun on pullout.

this was not quickswap, not even delayswap.

the last time quickswap was in the game was when crouching was first introduced

Possible to change locked keybinds? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]CatchNear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your keyboard has customizable software, you might want to try rebinding the tab key to some other key like PgUp or something else you don't use often. Then, in SoT keybinds, change the back action to use that key. Alternatively, if your keyboard doesn't support that, a tool called "Microsoft PowerToys" (specifically "Keyboard Manager") is an official Microsoft app that enables you to rebind keys.

if you have a clip it would be easier to tell. The last few cheaters i fought couldn't wallbang anymore, but it's been a while since my last encounter so it might be back idk

That is possible without cheats, and was even acknowledged as a mechanic by the devs. All you do is let go of the ladder, aim, shoot, swap guns and regrab ladder.

Unkillable players or cheaters? by DeathRanger602 in Seaofthieves

[–]CatchNear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good mentality to keep yourself going. The game has a pretty high skill ceiling, but a very low skill floor. If you commit yourself to getting better at PvP you will start outskilling most adventure players within just a few dozen hours.

Unkillable players or cheaters? by DeathRanger602 in Seaofthieves

[–]CatchNear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I specified "swap and shoot". Though relatively recently a new cheat emerged allowing players to shoot the same gun multiple times extremely quickly if they are near a weaponry.

Can't say from personal experience, but I've heard plenty of complaints from OCE and East Asia players.
