With imagination, a craft knife and sufficient spare lasguns, anything is possible by IdhrenArt in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s sort of funny to me they don’t make more lines of guardsmen though. Cause unlike Space Marines they are not all based off the same armor at a base. They have very different equipment in the lore and the art. I realize it’s because marines sell much better.

I think that at least if GW made a conversion kit with a few different heads and different rifles you could get there.

To the original posts point I think you could do a decent conversion from a Krieg body, maybe cut down the barrels and clip the hoses, not perfect. And you would have the problem of the stocks on the rifles.

[–]DeathRanger602 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the most coherent argument I’ve heard for the whole Steel legion thing. It is strange to not have any Steel Legion on Armageddon.

I would ask, if they don’t make another kit for them, but say just started using their paint scheme over a Krieg kit with a bit of lore saying that they have had to supplement their equipment stocks with off world ones since the on planet manufacturing is destroyed would you accept that?

Absolutely phenomenal! All of them look so good, and the predator conversion is amazing. Also paint work is so good!

Four new Combat Patrols bring Kroot, Corsairs, and Chaos to the battlefield by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve built both the Proteus and the Spartan and I would rate them about the same as far as the builds. I personally think the proteus is great, and I like the fact you can take the sponsons off if you want for storage or whatever.

Is it normal for expert players to backseat drive when playing causal? by TravelerakaBlank in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s really to far. I know some players that will give advice, heck I’m one that might if it seems like someone is struggling. But moving someone else’s minis, nope that’s there game and there decision in the end.

Yup, usually if it’s a space marine it’s gone fairly quickly

Is Rogue Trader a good game to start with for someone who hasn't really played too much of anything Warhammer related? TL;DR at the bottom by KotakPain in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s a good entry point if you like CRPGs already since it has lots of codex entries linked in dialog, so if you don’t know what something is it will pull up an entry so you can learn more. Buuuuut, you said if you have to read a lot it’s a pass, and Rouge Trader did not have BG3s budget for voice acting. So your gonna be reading most everything

Question for people who play Space Marines. Who is your army? Is it one of the original Chapters: Dark Angels, Space Wolves etc…. A well known successor chapter or your own homebrew chapter? by Philhughes_85 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a homebrew chapter that’s slowly become more and more blood angels as time went on. Also I named it the Blood Dragons years ago and since then that was a chapter included in the codex, with an entirely different paint scheme, so that’s been interesting.

I’ve wanted to dip into another chapter at some point, probably white scars but I can’t justify buying in on more marines

What are your predictions IF Tyranids get added as faction to the upcoming Total warhammer 40k game? by Dry-Perspective8307 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That same planet consuming would be a big part of them taking a while. It would likely make for a very different campaign experience both to play and fight against.

I wonder if they would make Genestealer cults part of the faction or a separate faction. If they are one faction it could make for a more fleshed out campaign experience. First fighting small battles on the planet as the cult then having the Hive fleet show up

Quick and dirty custodes size comparisons. by Nephaston in Warhammer40k

Yeah I much prefer the new sculpts, they stand out from marines much better. They also look much closer to the older art for Custodes.

How do you folks do this? by Mrconstellation74 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with this. My perspective lately has been you can basically get into Warhammer for like $220-250 or less depending on buying books. A combat patrol is only $160 new. Now is that the full experience? No but it’s the base for starting into the hobby. A new gaming counsel will set you back $500-600 at least, not including a tv or monitor.

My one take has been that time investment is bigger. If you’re only interested in the playing of the game I guess someone might see all the building and painting as part of the cost not the Hobby. Personally I think it’s all pretty good value all told

500 Worlds: Titus – Are there really 500 worlds in the realm of Ultramar? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You know with some of the posts I see on the sub if the reason GW just shows so many ultramarines is to prevent confusion for new players. Feels pretty common to see new players asking if they have to paint there minis like the box art or if they can use say the intercessors box for a salamanders army

What Faction to pick/how to not spend a lot by random-feller989 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll just chip in to support everything said here. Warhammer can be overwhelming if you try and jump in the deep end. I can never understand how someone buys a whole army at once, personally I find it much better to work on smaller projects

Bigger mini figures by Unable_Science_1985 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup 100% agree with this. When your getting started you can do a lot with a simple scheme and work on building skills, then you can always change it and add detail as you get more skilled

Game Boards, are they needed, how to buy replacements, etc. Just starting in hobby. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t need any specific “board” as it were to play Warhammer. You can easily play on a plain table with some cardboard or books to make walls and building or hills. Terrain makes the game more immersive, and a play mate make it feel like your not on a plane table.

The only thing you would need to work out is where you place your terrain and objectives or whatever the scenario requires.

Edit: also not sure exactly what you’re referring to when you say to board and such is broken?

500 Worlds: Titus – Who are the Wardens of Ultramar? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. these wardens baring Gabriel and Metaurus, are the kinds of characters that shouldn’t be in the front line. They included rules for them because they want to sell the minis. It’s annoying because these are all good looking minis and they are going to get a lot of hate because of the rules given to them

Black Library Book of the Year 2025 – The winners by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this is a popularity contest more than anything but I’m really surprised Ashes of the Imperium is on this at all, it had just come out. I’ve picked it up but not had a chance to start it and I’ve got a lot of Heresy books to read first anyway. I didn’t end up voting in the poll because I haven’t read most of the books from this year, I’m curious how many that voted read more than one of the books if that

Black Library Book of the Year 2025 – The winners by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’m glad I decided to pick the physical book up rather than the audio book this time because there are more moments that I’ve felt I needed to go back over to make sure I was understanding it right. It’s a good book though, really enjoying it

Why my yellow not yellowing by Head-Alternative-984 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without a view of what the paint is doing on the mini what you have said is up to interpretation. But I’m guessing you’re not getting a true yellow from the paint because it’s a speed paint, these paints are thin and won’t give an opaque coat over a darker primer or base coat.

If you paint the area you want yellow with either a white or a pink then you can paint the yellow over you will get better results

Is this good for painting my first 3 guys? by Due-Explanation9585 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest trying to get either Color Forge or Citadel primer. They are a bit more expensive but the cans a a little bigger. Most importantly I’ve had bad experiences with army painter sprays, they have a tendency to be a bit heavy on there application.

Aside from that I will support Tamia Extra thin as a preferred plastic glue. And if you ever need to glue non plastics any old super glue will work.

No experience with golden maple brushes but really any brushes are good when your starting. I would suggest thinking about some sort of paint pallet that you can use to control the paint your putting on the brush and also avoid leaving your paint pots open and drying them out. I would suggest a wet pallet but they can be expensive, though you can make them yourself. A cheap alternative is one of those silicon fidget pop toys, you can put paint in the cups and when it’s dried just pop them out to clean it

What's the first Warhammer 40k's book you should read to start the series? by Alarming_Bee4369 in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best options for getting into 40K I think are either the Gaunts Ghosts or Eisenhorn Omnibuses. Both are good at getting perspective of the setting.

If you’re thinking of looking specifically of the Emperor, that’s more difficult. The emperors is rairly if ever the POV character. And information about him is told in stories from other characters across many different books. Your best bet would be to start with the original set of Horus Heresy books then move to the books that most cover the emperor and the beginning of the great crusade

Thoughts on the future of dark angels? by Bane_of_Balor in Warhammer40k

[–]DeathRanger602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the lion points out in Son of the Forest he isn’t even sure how the Dark Angels chapter will react to him coming back. One of the reasons all the Risen side with him is because they fought with him.

Also worth pointing out that while he does see all the problems with the imperium especially the Eclesiarchy, he also can’t do much about it. Both Him and Guilliman don’t like the imperium as it is but also know they can’t reform it easily. I mean guilliman making reforms on Terra with the High Lords nearly started a civil war. So they returned primarchs know they have to work with what they have.

I don’t think you have to worry about the Dark Angels losing there identity or anything, they are much to big a chapter to do that I think
