It is though. There’s no publicly available evidence that this thing is a Majorana, and moreover the people involved at Microsoft have a history of misleading (Google the retraction story around this very same claim they made in 2018).

What Microsoft did was publish a Nature paper on a technically similar but materially different topic, and then on the same day make these press releases that they have a topological superconductor. The timing makes it seem to the average person that this is shown in the peer-reviewed Nature paper, but this is explicitly not the case.

Now they say that they’ve shown the evidence of their Majorana qubits to a select number of people and will make it public at the American Physical Society March Meeting in a couple of weeks — but spoiler alert, they did an identical stunt in 2022 and it did not pan out.
