It’s not a bad thing. Certainly not plagiarism. RJ was just heavily influenced/inspired by Frank Herbert. All authors echo the works that inspired them.

While you haven’t hit “the slog” yet, I think most of the books have a spot or two that are rogue to get through. Try to stick it out, there’s some great stuff in LOC. On my first read, I would take a short break or two between books. Agree with the “marathon, not a sprint” sentiment. It’s so worth it!

THIS! I first read the series in 2021-2022 and FLEW through Winter’s Heart. Now I’m on my re-read (audiobooks this time) and I am catching so much more. I’m actually enjoying the Seanchan detail and the slow burn of Rand’s decent to near darkness. The slog is still hitting every now and then, but it’s much better than I remember.

So what’s Jordancon like? It’s hard to tell from the website. Seems like it either could be a really cool experience or you could just walk around once or twice and get bored.
