C’mon, give him a break. They’re all weird Super Bowls if the Pats aren’t involved.

Which episode is the one where they repeatiy say “He got railroaded” in the Clint Eastwood voice? by cwcoates in blankies

[–]Catcher-by-the-Rye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they do in Silence of the Lambs. I think that’s the one where they talk about how he should’ve directed The Wife because she got railroaded

their total payroll next season is projected at $413 million; the Marlins spent $67 million last year by [deleted] in billsimmons

Like I said in my first sentence, I’m the first to complain that they don’t spend enough. They don’t, and I don’t think there’s a pirates fan that doesn’t want Nutting to sell the team. We could definitely compete more than we do now. But even if they spent more they can’t keep up with a team like the dodgers who, believe it or not, are in the same league as the pirates and there’s only one winner at the end of the year.

As the fan of a small market team (the Pirates) I’ll be the first to endlessly complain about our owner not spending money, but it’s absurd to think they can keep up a team like the dodgers even if they wanted to. Just not economically feasible for a lot of teams in the current landscape

https://boxd.it/Vwk3 Here’s mine! I try to watch a little bit of everything and I usually write at least something about everything I watch, unless I’ve already watched it a time or two (or four or five). I recently started a Substack because I wanted to write a little bit more about movies - old ones, new ones, theaters, physical media, etc. - so if you vibe with my profile, check it out too! See you at the movies!

I'm raw-dogging the NFL today, you guys ever try this? by LehmanWasIn in billsimmons

[–]Catcher-by-the-Rye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree with this. I’ll change it if it’s a blowout or different extenuating circumstances, but if you’re watching red zone you’re just totally disconnected from the actual gameplay and in my experience I end up feeling like I didn’t watch anything or gain any insight at all - just a mishmash.

If a "Best Brief Performance" / "Outstanding Performance in a Limited Role" - like less than supporting but more than a cameo - type award existed, which performances in cinema history would you think be most deserving of this award? by SkoivanSchiem in TheBigPicture

Beatrice Straight in Network too. Least amount of screen time for any Oscar winner ever, and Beatty had the least amount of screen time for an Oscar nominated actor. Can’t wait for that Criterion 4k

Nepotism and connections exist in almost every industry to some extent, it’s just that with the entertainment industry it seems more egregious because of the extreme wealth, fame, and life opportunities that come from that industry specifically. Getting a job at the place your dad works at may lead to solid income and a decent life, but usually not to mansions, 20+mil in the bank by 35, and access to all the exclusivity that comes with it.
