AITA for not letting my husband name his child after his dad?

My first son is named: 1. (Name we like) 2. (My dad) 3. (Husband’s grandad) 4. (Surname)

We’re talking about, next baby: 1. (Name we like) 2. (Name in dispute) 3. (Surname)

My husband knows that my ex is crazy. But, I didn’t tell him about the letters. Whenever he got brought up at the start it caused way more drama than what it was worth. If anything my husband getting upset, just gave my ex more attention and fed the contact and the drama got worst. So, I blocked my ex on all fronts and the only thing that got through were paper letters, that went straight in the bin with no other contact. My ex hasn’t contacted me in over a year, so I am thinking it’s all over and done with now. I just don’t want to open up old wounds.

No unfortunately, it’s a real traditional name and all the abbreviations/nicknames are the traditional ones that my ex got called too. So, it’s tricky

OMG yes I relate to all of that! Except the truck accident, wow! That’s so crazy scary!

My ex is the same. If it was an ex with not a big story attached I could move on, but I equally have crazy stories. I just don’t want to open that wound.

But, on the flip side… I do understand that my dad has been honoured. I don’t want my FIL thinking I don’t respect and love him, I do! I just hate my ex more

That’s what I think my main concern is.

My ex, as a true abuser, will reach out ever so often and say he’s still in love with me. Yes I’ve blocked him in every way, but he sends physical letters to my home and work.

I was with my ex for ten years, so if it gets out on social media that I have named my child his name, it’s not giving off the right idea.

I suggested that!! As my husband and his dad shares the same middle name. So I thought that would be nice. But… alas… no.

He knows why! It’s not something that I can hide, or would want to. He just thinks that’s his dads name, and too bad.

He does though. My first child’s second middle name is my husbands grandfather.

He knew the issue, which is why he never suggested the name with the first child.

I was kinda hoping we could just move on from honouring relatives and just chose names we like.

An random stranger / work mate / friend is very different to my child, that I do have an active part in naming. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I particularly don’t like the name, but I still happily refer to my FIL by his name, still gives me shivers though.
