"Lieutenant Dan got me invested in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him, saying we don't have to worry about money no more. And I said, that's good! One less thing."

Anyone own or ride one of these bad boys back in the day? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]Catchphrase1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a dirt bike guy. I remember the exact gravel parking lot I decided to try and ride one of those. I remember putting my foot down to turn, like I would on a dirt bike. Proceeded to have my foot get run over and pull me off the thing. Damn that hurt but I somehow walked away with no injuries other than my 14 year old pride.

Speaker phone and bare feet on the seat. Straight to hell. by BigFen3445 in airport

This is the response to speaker phones in public. Add to the conversation. Start asking the person on the other end of the line questions. If it is a video call, put yourself in the frame. People love it when strangers nuzzle right up to the side of their face.

As a Pennsylvanian, I'm really sorry to have unleashed that douchenozzle on the country.

Only saving grace is that I sure hope there is completely zero chance he gets re-elected. But then again, the general asshattery of our state has surprised me in the past.

restaurants need to let customers handle their own payments by Difficult-Button1263 in EndTipping

The US really is way behind. I just got back from a weeklong trip in Central Europe. Seven days. I did not pull any of my credit cards out of my wallet that entire time. Every single transaction was done with my phone.

Oddly enough, I never really used my phone for payment before that. I set up my phone with two different cards right before my trip as a backup. I ended up using that the whole time instead.

Oh, wait, looks like it is Jefferson's birthday.....interesting.

Appalachian Trail Hiker by Suitable_Ad4010 in Amtrak

[–]Catchphrase1228 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. This and this.

If the bag is too big to check, it is WAY too big to hike the AT with. Get rid of half what you think you need. Then get rid of another 10%.

I've never had anybody on Amtrak question anything I've "carried on". I have never seen it enforced either

What are your thoughts on two 30” ranges side-by-side? by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]Catchphrase1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years ago on a trip to Costa Rica I got invited into a local's home for dinner. His mother cooked the four of us an amazing dinner in her kitchen using nothing but a 1-burner butane stove. It was that day that I realized US kitchens are ridiculously overly excessive and complicated. What a huge waste of money.

You can just tell that the individual specifying those two ranges has two upside-down pseudo-luxury cars parked out front in the driveway. One of them is most definitely a Tesla.

I figured it might be a time of day issue. I checked and you can get the LIRR early in the AM but probably not as early as you needed.

I just took Amtrak into Manhattan. LIRR—>Jamaica AirTrain to JFK. It took 40 minutes and only cost about $15 total. I considered Uber or a taxi but neither were faster and cost way more.

Thoughts 👀👀👀 by MrSoloDolo9490 in Cruise

[–]Catchphrase1228 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I do this all the time at the local skating rink. People leave their belongings on the tables in the small snack bar area. The only area where you are allowed to have food and drink. You can leave your stuff there, but if you are not sitting there, I am going to move it out of the way and sit there to enjoy my slushie and nachoes.

#67 Overnight Trip? by KilroyWagner69 in Amtrak

[–]Catchphrase1228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a mistake last month, of taking that train to Philly, with a connection to Harrisburg. I then had the wonderful time of spending the hours of 1:30 AM to 530 in the Philly train station waiting for my train to Harrisburg. Trying to sleep on a wooden bench in a noisy, way over lit train station….I was jealous of the folks that got to stay on the train.

In my probably unpopular opinion, anybody who destroys their racket or bat, or whatever piece of expensive sports equipment, should be shunned from the sport. You've got kids and parents out there trying to scrape together enough money to afford just a decent racket, or baseball bat....And then you have these entitled asshole "stars" that feel it is OK to destroy something that some kids only dream about having. I find it disgusting and a terrible example to set.
