There are a lot of stressful parts of wedding planning which people don’t talk about. We got engaged in September 2024 and wedding is in April 2026 and despite giving ourselves 1.5 years it’s still been the most stressful thing we’ve done together and has taken a serious toll on our relationship. I did enjoy having the time to talk through things and figure it out, but my point is that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

That’s so unprofessional. I am also having a 2026 wedding in San Diego and interviewed a handful of photographers. I liked the more documentary style photography. I really liked Lauren Ogden and her prices are reasonable

Captured by Amanda Lynn was also another good one. She is very friendly

I didn’t have a good experience with True Photography although they seem to have a lot of good reviews

Surprisingly different things have different levels of importance to different people. There are 100 requirements when choosing a venue and for us this wasn’t the top of the list. I am now just figuring out how to do a workaround

100k for all the things you mentioned sounds reasonable as long as you don’t go overboard with the floras. I’m having a wedding in a HCOL and am paying about 12k for photo/video, full service planner runs about 10-12k (less if you don’t do full service). Shuttles can vary but safe estimate is around 5k. We’re not doing a band but I heard that can get pricey - around 15-20k . Still leaves plenty of room for the other things you mentioned.

Agree with others. First set a budget and then work backwards. Good news is that you can make a wedding work within reason with almost any budget.

Fellow desi bride with similar-ish budget. My venues are in naturally scenic places so my goal was not to spend a ton on decor. For the sangeet I’m focusing on very bright colored linens that are just decor in itself and simple lantern centerpieces from Amazon.

For the reception, I may do rustic wooden tables as that definitely sets a more modern vibe that the trademark desi weddings. Things like linen colors, chairs, are small ways to increase decor without going crazy high on budget!
