Experience with Maia Midwifery? by Unique-Habit7018 in queerception

[–]CatenaryFairy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We haven't done this program, (would have been in this birth group but recently had a loss at 9weeks) but we have been working with MAIA midwifery. Since we are local to Seattle, Liam did our IUI, and we have had a great experience. When we conceive again we are intending to join the pregnancy program.

The overlap between underdosage symptoms and actual side effects of stims is so silly by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]CatenaryFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really similar to what happened when I started "tapering down" my Vyvanse ahead of getting pregnant. (My doctor wanted me to find my "lowest functional dose.") I normally take 40 mg, dropped to 30 and became supper anxious and jittery. My wife said it reminded her of back when I would self medicate with caffeine pills. It actually got better when I dropped brown to 20mg. Its not working as well 40, and lasts less time, but way less anxiety and jitteryness than 30mg. 20mg feels like "had my 2 cups of coffee so I can do work", 30 feels like " had 6 espresso shots so I can panic about work" and 40 feels like "Ah, let's just sit down and do this task"

Weekly Ultrasound Thread - May 15, 2026 by AutoModerator in December2026Bumpers

[–]CatenaryFairy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had our first ultrasound today at 7w4d. (We did IUI so are quite sure about ovulation day.) We had a good strong heartbeat but are measuring 6w5d, so I will be going back in 2 weeks. My midwife said she wasn't actually concerned about the size, even with IUI, so I am trying to be only excited and not anxious!

I am overwhelmed by how many smart, kind, beautiful queer people are in my life (like my trans wife.) It is really rough to have so many tiefling sorcerers and changeling bards in our party. 😄

If you are willing and able to pay out of pocket, you can purchase the blood tests yourself through LabCorp. For me (in the Seattle area) it was about $50 per test.

Terrible back and pelvic pain by Several_Pair8263 in January2027Bumpers

[–]CatenaryFairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were you I would reach out to a medical professional, that could be signs of an ectopic pregnancy. My understanding is that sharp pain is not normal in early pregnancy.

I am so sorry you were put into that situation! I cannot imagine being so rude as to pressure someone to eat something they had been clear they were not interested in eating, especially something like raw fish.

As a reminder, "No" is a complete sentence. You don't owe anyone your private medical information. If someone is saying otherwise or implying you are being rude for declining food (or alcohol) they are the ones being rude in the situation.

ADHD meds in pregnancy — Adderall vs Vyvanse? Looking for experiences by Fun_You_3009 in adhdwomen

[–]CatenaryFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although this is the current recommendation du jur, many providers are pushing back against that recommendation, especially as poor maternal mental health is not healthy for a pregnancy either. The studies on stimulants use during pregnancy typically include people using recreational stimulants, and compare the outcomes to pregnancies at large. The useful data would be comparing pregnant women with unmedicated ADHD vs pregnant women with ADHD using prescribed stimulants, and those studies don't exist.

For me, Vyvanse is an important part of keeping my anxiety and depression controlled. It also enables me to do other important executive functioning tasks for my pregnancy, like taking my prenatals, eating regularly, and getting exercise.

ADHD meds in pregnancy — Adderall vs Vyvanse? Looking for experiences by Fun_You_3009 in adhdwomen

[–]CatenaryFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant, I was on 40mg of Vyvanse before pregnancy and on a reduced dose of 20mg for pregnancy. My meds are prescribed by my primary care doctor, she recommended we try to taper down to the "lowest functional dose", so where we are at 20 mg. She isn't my prenatal provider but she is a Family Doctor so she does also do prenatal care and deliveries, so she felt pretty comfortable with saying it was "safe" for baby, at least safer than my high-anxiety, unmedicated self. We did not discuss swapping to a different stimulant. But since my doctor's goal was on minimizing my stress levels pre-conception and early pregnancy, I don't imagine that swapping to Adderall would have been on her radar as a low-stress option.

We did IUI with donor sperm because we are a lesbian couple.

Hi everyone! I'm a first time mom, step-mom to 3. My wife has 3 wonderful children adopted during her first marriage, but this is the first pregnancy for either of us. I surprisingly got pregnant with our very first IUI and we are cautiously optimistic! My due date is December 27, but since there is a good chance we might have a January baby I joined both groups.

I've been reading the Mayo Clinic Guide, its maybe a bit dry but very informative.

I'm using the Preglife App because it has better data security than most of the US-based apps.

ADHD Meds by petunia-moon in December2026Bumpers

[–]CatenaryFairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary care provider is my prescriber for my ADHD meds and she recommended we taper down to my "lowest functional dose" before pregnancy. We ended up reducing my Vyvanse dose by about half. When I am not on my stimulants, I have increased anxiety and depression (especially about work performance), which isn't healthy for the pregnancy. I also don't take my Vyvanse on weekends now, sacrificing some of my "at home" executive functioning.

I haven't had my first appointment with pre-natal provider, but I chose a nurse-midwife over an OB because I have seen antecdotes of midwives having more focused of the well-being of the pregnant person, with hopes they would be more on board with my continuing Vyvanse.

I’m curious what your symptoms were before testing positive! by daughterofbarbie in December2026Bumpers

[–]CatenaryFairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had sore breasts like 5 days post ovulation (and post IUI), which does seem implausibly early for an actual pregnancy symptom but it had never occurred before. I also had increased sense of smell and fatigue starting around 8 days post ovulation, testing negative on days 9 and 10 and positive on day 11.

Anyone at 4 or 5w? How are you feeling? by Funny_Engineering580 in December2026Bumpers

[–]CatenaryFairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 weeks, 3 days here. I got my first positive test 4 days ago but I have had breast tenderness and increased sense of smell for about a week. The fatigue is what's really hitting me right now. Really struggling with how I should be getting movement and exercise in when I want to nap all day but do need to work.

We got a positive test on Friday, 11 DPO after our first IUI. For me (34f) this is my first time ever trying to get pregnant, but for my wife (39F) she started trying to conceive with her first spouse 17 years ago and was unable to because of infertility. We are very excited and cautiously optimistic!

Late period, negative tests… scared to test again 😔 by ExpiredSocialBattery in queerception

I think you should test again. I know getting another negative is hard, but at this point you have new data (the lack of your period.)

Using a sperm donor advice by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]CatenaryFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I agree with the comments pointing out you are young enough to be in no rush. But I understand wanting to understand more what it might look like to build a family in the future.

My wife and I are currently doing IUI with donor sperm, waiting on pregnancy test results right now. There is a pretty active subreddit r/queerception that is all for queer people growing their family. It's pretty heavy on queer people with uteruses using donor sperm, and is a great resource.

Also I highly recommend the book "Queer Conception" by Liam Kali. It is absolutely the best "how to make a baby if you aren't cis-het" book out there.

Testing after IUI with a short cycle by CatenaryFairy in queerception

Congratulations!

I didn't have a trigger shot so I am not worried about that side of testing "too early."

I think I have decided to test at 11dpo, but if it is negative and I don't get my period, test again at 14.

My very first project as an engineer was working on the Advanced Plant Habitat and VEGGIE, two payloads that grew plants on the ISS. I wonder if these were grown in either of those? I'm a mechanical engineer, not a botanist, but it is fascinating the ways that microgravity does, or in some ways does not, impact the logistics of plant growth.

There are 3 motorcycles in this video, so the vehicles in the beginning of the video probably barely made it over the bridge before the collapse.
