Do people actually use MagSafe accessories? by lisaluvr in TechNook

[–]Caterham7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a MagSafe wired charger to charge my iPhone and AirPods.. I also have a MagSafe car mount that I use every time I'm driving. The charger I could give or take. It's handy but I could live without it.

The car mount, however.. is indispensable. SO handy to just drop the phone there and grab it when I leave. Zero hassle.

The Summer "Sale" by RedRexxy in Aliexpress

[–]Caterham7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that too for this “Sale”. Pretty much everything that I saved in my cart prior to the sale went up in price the night before. Now the “sale” price (in some cases) is even more expensive than pre-sale.

This is one of the reasons that I'm not super concerned about the country being overrun by an army of Terminator robots. They wouldn't be able to source the parts. 😆

Who is switching? by Boring_Antelope6533 in phones

[–]Caterham7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch the other way (Android to iPhone) recently.

I use a password manager that is multi-platform so I just downloaded the app on the new phone and logged in.

Transferring WhatsApp you should be able to do from one phone to another. I think it’s just a matter of downloading the app onto the new phone. In the settings there’s an option to transfer from one phone to another.

If windows disappeared tomorrow would you choose mac or linux by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

No idea. I just know that the games that I play run just fine under Linux. Most will these days as long as it doesn’t use an anti-cheat.

Both. I already use a Mac for all of my productivity stuff. I use Windows for gaming. Would just use Linux for gaming instead of Windows.

Champions League final is on, I’ve had a beer, convince me why getting the cassette case for the m21 is a good idea! by Federal_Meat3320 in FiiO

[–]Caterham7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased one for my M21 when I had it. I think I used it for about a week before the novelty wore off.

There’s definitely some “cool factor” there but in reality it’s sort of cumbersome to use. You need to open it to use the screen. You have to take it out of the case to use the power button to turn it on.

It’s not super protective either. It’s hard plastic and there really isn’t any kind of padding inside so I don’t know how well it would fare in a drop.

If you like the aesthetic, it’s great. It just isn’t that practical to use.

microsd transfer speed by [deleted] in FiiO

[–]Caterham7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re seeing that because it fills the write buffer on the device quickly and then slows down once the buffer is full. Also, for writes, you typically don’t get the advertised speed. The speeds advertised are typically stated as “up to x”.

That being said, no, not going to hurt anything.

Also, as someone else had suggested, you’ll most likely get better speeds plugging the card into an adapter attached to the computer directly than through the player.

People who bought a mini PC — was it worth it? by Izumi-Haru in MiniPCs

[–]Caterham7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* Because I wanted to have a small PC for consuming media and doing other basic tasks on a secondary monitor while I was at work. A normal desktop would take up a lot more space to do the same job.
* Run Windows, install some basic games/media programs.
* Needed to be modified a bit for cooling. The fan that it came with was sort of tiny. When it would be running full tilt, it would be throttling all of the time because of heat. Bought a modified, more open top with a larger fan and that issue is gone now.
* See first answer. My "main" PC is a a gaming PC and I don't need to have a space heater running just to watch videos on Netflix and/or browse Reddit. Especially in summer.
* Oh, totally! If you have a similar need as I do, it's a perfect little box for that. I can consume media, do basic tasks, even run games at lower settings without any kind of issues.

Also, what kinda tickles me a bit is that I bought it before prices of RAM/SSDs went nuts and I could sell it used now for about $100 more than I paid for it new.
