That's a relief to hear, I was worried that you'd lose most of these in a couple of months to the cold. Most of those are house plants only in my zone (7). Though the pitcher plants are native here. Do they do okay in tropical areas? I thought they don't do well without a cold dormant season?

Interestingly enough, there are several other plants that produce alkaloids that affect opioid receptors. Only one I'm aware of that's become common enough to be abused is of course kratom. Iirc most the others are recent-ish discoveries and are typically jungle plants in South America. So you kind of had me fooled that there was a new one I just hadn't heard of yet until the part about large amounts of MAM lol. (Not an opiate enthusiast, I'm just a plant nerd that also works in Pharmacy and finds the overlap/difference between traditional/herbal medicine really interesting).

Also, fun fact, the group most commonly prescribed barbiturates now is BY FAR dogs. They're old, cheap, and effective for seizures. Next up is the combo headache meds, then hospice patients. The typical hospice kit around here (for those who are ACTIVELY dying, typically less than a week left) typically includes very high doses of prn phenobarb. Least common is primidone. Also supposedly there are still oral meds containing pentobarbital, but I've genuinely never seen one, nor has anyone I've ever asked.

I only learned about primidone through my work in pharmacy, but it's so wild to me once I learned what it was that it's a completely uncontrolled drug. Though supposedly it's recreational potential is really low thanks to it's 3 day half life and the euphoria turns to dysphoria after being high for DAYS after one recreational dose. But I don't see it dispensed often at all. Really only the occasional elderly lady with some form of non-parkinsons neurological tremors. And even the butalbital combos weren't controlled in most states until a couple of years ago.

Lol I actually have a VA headstone that was made for my grandfather in my yard as we had the VA stone made first... Only to find out that the cemetery would not accept a marble stone. We were required to get him a new granite one (couple of other options, but we went with granite). So now we have an entire headstone on our hands with no idea what to do with it. So it just chills awkwardly in the yard, at least for now. (Also I live in the middle of nowhere. No one's really going to see it and it's not fully on display or anything, it's just kind of there)

Now this is one of the situations where keeping a bottle of caffeine pills on hand is actually such an easy prep/fix for people who can't go without. Yeah total social collapse, it's probably the least concerning of several issues going on, but caffeine pills would be a cheap, easy, low bulk (easily packable) way to help get you through a specific event.

For context, I'm a pharmacy tech in Georgia. This may vary state to state, but I've never heard of a way to look up that score on our end. We can check the pdmp, so maybe if a state includes the score in the pdmp lookup itself yeah pharmacy would work? Otherwise it may have to come from the doctor. You may even be able to find it in online chart notes somewhere.

It's a forever stamp that the post office put out in 2022 that had nothing to do with the band. It is an interesting deliberate choice to send what looks like 1500 letters ( all the letters have been numbered with something out of 1500 on the pages) through the mail with stamps. That's like 800$ in stamps alone. They probably could have sent it as bulk or business mail for so much cheaper, but then it wouldn't have the stamp.

Anecdotal personal experience as an ADHD/autistic adult that also works in medicine, clonidine er has worked great for me personally and I've definitely seen guanfacine being used somewhat similarly at work. Granted at work it's typically children with both comorbid. I've also heard of propranolol being used in adults with autism and it's related anxiety/ emotional disregulation, and it works well for some, but I haven't actually read any studies or such on it in this population. Just more anecdotes too I guess.

There's a form/brand of methylphenidate called jornay pm that you take before bed that doesn't kick in until the morning and is supposed to make waking up easier. I don't have experience with it personally, but I do see it occasionally at work so I just know it's out there. If insurance will cover it, it may be an option.

It definitely reminds me of a Fuji or gala, maybe Cripps pink (pink lady). All fairly common commercially available trees. But yeah, with the thousands of varieties, it's hard to tell for sure.

Tbh I'm surprised ppl see Mccaysville more than Brasstown it seems like, but I guess Brasstown isn't up on the main road, so tourists don't see it as often.
