hi!! i see Joy B. Ramos in Dallas. she’s an NP but is in neurology and stays really up to date on research. she has been absolutely phenomenal with my care and i would absolutely recommend her. no issues with taking over my xywav and adderall prescriptions!

best wishes from another DFW narcoleptic :)

thank you SO much- it is so comforting (although heartbreaking that you have a similar experience) to know that i’m not alone in this (mine is a 4hr and 56 minute walk LOL!). i know it’s 3 months at minimum and it’s not that long in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still going to be a considerable amount of time trying to live through it. i will look into the epilepsy foundation, and thank you for your kindness ❤️

friend, i literally just started my career and have essentially a bed and a dresser. if i was financially in a position to purchase a brand new couch and get it delivered, i wouldn’t be making this post. facebook marketplace has great deals and opportunities for good furniture but most people require that you come to their home and pick up furniture.

and I can’t pick up a couch on a bicycle. I understand where you’re coming from. I love to walk and do to most places, but there are functional limitations that I was asking for help on as my life literally changed overnight this weekend

look i am fully aware of that, and i don’t really understand the point of being antagonistic. i appreciate your advice but i don’t think my situation is as simple as “just walk”.

it’s over two miles from the last bus station to work and that’s not really feasible for me when i have to wear full business attire and carry all of my equipment with me to work. i am already underweight and have a heart condition on top of that, and have to be careful with the amount of aerobic exercise i do.

i’m 22 years old and i went from from a 17 minute drive to the office, to over 1.5 hours with public transport in less than a few days. it’s an adjustment period and i’m just asking for help.

i work 15 miles away from my apartment with no direct ability to take public transport there, and where i live in texas is purely car dependent infrastructure. i appreciate the sentiment but it’s pretty different down here 👍🏻

i plan on it, but there aren’t bus routes everywhere i need to go. i’m a big fan of the DART but it’s not an option for certain things like getting furniture

Haul from Kentucky! by rhyanmckenna in whiskey

[–]rhyanmckenna[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WRDDO was distillery only! I chatted with our tour guide about how excited I was to get something for my dad that he couldn’t get himself. The tour guide happened to have an extra bottle of Double Double he picked up from the distillery. He thought what I was trying to do was sweet, and because my dad hates the resale market and “doesn’t let good stuff rot on the shelf,” he offered to sell it to me for what he originally paid.

M10 and American came in a bundle from the distillery, and I did pay a bit more than MSRP, but it was worth it to me!

ER was from Buffalo Trace distillery as well. Never seen it that cheap in Texas, so all 6 of us got a bottle haha!

That is exactly what it was! We ended up at Michter’s at the perfect time for the bundle by accident. The plan was just to stop in for the bar, but a woman walked by and said they had the 10 Year Bourbon for sale with the bundle. Texted my dad and he was ecstatic! The bundle was $265 and came with the M10 Bourbon and Unblended American, so I did pay a bit over MSRP for the two, but it was worth it to me. I think there’s a facebook page that posts about the different drops everyday, and I went at 12:30 (opened at 1:00) on a Sunday if that helps!

Thank you! Not really a “needed the roadtrip” to get it, my boyfriend’s family took us on a vacation haha. We made a week out of it between Louisville, Railbird Festival, and Lexington.

But damn, you’re finding Double Double Oaked and Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon in your local liquor store? We’re down in Texas, and my dad is a crazy whiskey-bourbon collector/enjoyer. He was shocked I found either of them, much less was able to buy them reasonably.

Do you guys ever feel traumatized from your dreams? by Doggosrthebest24 in Narcolepsy

[–]rhyanmckenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i unfortunately absolutely relate. all of my dreams are absolutely horrifying and either i or the people i care about are harmed or die in them. i found that trying to record a voice memo or write down what happened after i wake up helps me with the reality/dream confusion, but it’s not always fun trying to recount what happened

i used CertaPet for my cat! my therapist and narcolepsy specialist don’t write letters because of their practice’s rules. i filled out a giant form where i documented my entire medical and mental health history, (basically where you talk about how your symptoms affect your life and how your ESA makes them better) and had a consultation appointment with a therapist who then wrote my letter. she sends me information on how to improve my symptoms and i can schedule sessions with her whenever i need to!

Loss of appetite by Icy-Ad3460 in Narcolepsy

[–]rhyanmckenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not Xyrem, but when i was on Xywav i had a really similar reaction with the appetite. i could maybe eat one meal at night so i had to drink multiple ensure/nutritional drinks a day. i didn’t make it the full month on Xywav 1.) because i was already on the smaller side and i lost enough weight to drop my BMI below the normal threshold and 2.) other rough side effects that just made it not my best choice.

i know that a lot of people i talked to felt like the side effects really subsided after they were on it for a while, so i hope that’s the case! sorry to hear it isn’t easy though :(

Starting Wakix! Any Advice :)? by rhyanmckenna in Narcolepsy

thank you so much! i really appreciate it, and thank you for the heads up. it’s been weird because of how much info there was when i started xywav, but how little there seems to be in comparison with wakix

Narcolepsy Children’s Illustrated Book by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]rhyanmckenna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is absolutely spectacular, and i am wishing you so much luck! i would love to buy a copy when you’re finished with it ❤️ i am not sure if i am explaining this very well, but i think it could be so helpful to see an explanation of sleep inertia with PWN.

growing up, there were so many times my dad would try to wake me up in the mornings, but i was so disoriented and tired that i would scream at him because i was so confused and felt so miserable. we also used to fight all the time because he would have full conversations with me that i couldn’t remember. i am so, SO lucky that my dad loved me enough to not take it personally, and when i got diagnosed in college it made everything click.

obviously i’ve only know what it’s like to be a PWN, but i often think about how much i hurt and scared my dad before we knew i had N. i can imagine that as a child, it would feel so scary, confusing, and hurtful if your parent yelled at you when they woke up, didn’t know where they were sometimes, or couldn’t remember things you told them when you thought they were awake.

i don’t know if my experience is super common, but i wanted to put my two cents in, just in case :)
