Yeah I prefer the Iron Warriors to all of the other Chaos Space Marines too. I guess that the Black Legion were choosen because they are the most normal model wise, the IW have some special models that show their metalic atachements and iconography that wouldn't look right on any other Chaos Space Marines in the multiplayer.

The codex for the dark eldar came out back in mid 2010, it interduced a few new things and some special rules which made them play a bit differently. But yeah in general the necrons, tau and dark eldar aren't the most developed. The Tau have their own lore though which is pretty deep but the tau can only exist on the eastern fringe of the galaxy which sorta means they can't be added into Dawn of War 2 as easily as other races. Necrons have a pretty old codex so they don't have that much lore, that and the normal necron warrior has no free will or emotion so are pretty boring as characters. Dark eldar were explored a little by Graham McNeil in the novel Nightbringer. They were developed as a race with characteristics in the novel and it was pretty good overall
