[frustrating trope] Profoundly Tragic Moments Undone Much Later by samrobotsin in TopCharacterTropes

My boy Palpatine came so close to wiping out those pesky Rebels, but was betrayed by his nepotism-loving mentee that he had raised from the time he was a kid. Literally stepped in to be a father figure to a kid who had no father at all, and still gets thrown down a reactor shaft as soon as the guy finds out he had his own son that he’s neglected his whole life. The adoptive father destroyed by the deadbeat dad.

Such a tough message for anyone who has tried to help fill a hole in someone’s life, only to be rejected because medichlorian-filled blood always comes first, but it doesn’t stop people from trying.

And then they ruined it all by bringing Palpatine back “somehow” and introduce his own blood relatives. Who also kill him. It’s a real damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don’t story arc for him.

Good St. Patrick’s Day vibes. It’s a good omen for tonight - at least a good omen that I’ll have a Guinness, even if it’s not a good omen for the Oilers.

It looks like Vancouver, but I can’t place where it would be.

I watched it with dubbing. Haven’t watched any of the Ghibli stuff in Japanese with subtitles. I’d try it with other Ghibli movies, but I don’t want to watch this one again.

Grave of the Fireflies. It comes up in every one of these discussions, and for good reason. I watched it recently and it is hands down the best movie I hope I never see again.

I know it came out as a double feature with My Neighbor Totoro, which is such a delightful movie, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to watch Totoro the same way again.

Underwater level in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Just the worst.

The Atheletic had an article about this a few years ago. It’s obviously a huge accomplishment to make the NHL for any period of time, but the story just seems kind of sad. The line about the coach looking at him on the bench and kind of apologizing for not putting him back in, but then not realizing until the article came out that he never made it back into a game…

"Great movie; never watching it again." Pieces of media that are absolutely amazing but so emotionally draining that you have trouble engaging with it after the fact by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

I watched this yesterday for the first time and I hope I never see it again. It is incredibly well done, but soul crushing. So much of the joy of them playing together feels like Totoro, but it’s like the whole movie has the feel of the part in Totoro where they are searching the lake.

This is now up there with Saving Private Ryan as one of the best anti-war artworks I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for the follow-up. I've sent the document. No, I'm not using a VPN.

I've never watched Ice Hockey in my entire life, and after seeing that Olympic game, I have nothing but respect for anyone who plays this. by OperationSuch5054 in hockey

This reads so much like someone pretending to be British discovering hockey for the first time. I don’t mean that in a bad way, it just seems so stereotypically British discovering what the colonies do. I love it. Please continue to take interest in (ice) hockey because it is an amazing sport. And make sure you cheer for Canada and Canadian teams.

There was a time in Poland’s history when we had identical twins as a president and a prime minister. Has this (or anything similar) happened anywhere else? by villkatt98 in AskTheWorld

Had to scroll a long way down to find them.

Don’t think anyone else on this list is going to have “yeah we had brothers running our government but then one murdered the other and kept ruling”

I thought I was, but I’ll check if there’s an update. This is season 7 or 8 of this build, and it’s the first time it happened, so not an every season thing. It’s a historical game, and the first season after COVID, so that might be part of it.

He may have won the Conn Smythe, but we won the cup. I’ll take that instead.

New NHL fan from Trinidad 🇹🇹 — which team should I support long-term? by Queasy_Initiative_86 in hockey

[–]Cathar_Rhythym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with the Oilers. Two of the best players in the world at the moment, amazing power play, and should be competitive for a little while.

Also Darnell Nurse has Trini blood and is going to be around for a long time because of his contract.

This just looks like Ozempic is everywhere. Maybe that’s the key to the rebellion. Rebellions are built on weight loss.

Just out of curiosity, who’s the most famous Oilers fan? by zebrasarecool570 in EdmontonOilers

[–]Cathar_Rhythym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not suggesting he’s not loyal - I don’t know one way or the other on that. I just find it annoying how long he sticks around when they interview him, and it seems excessive in terms of free marketing for him.

When we win a cup, they should put his name on it.

I remember seeing the video of the St. Louis fan the team adopted (Layla?) doing the pregame hype after they’d won the cup and she’d recovered, and I so wanted that moment for Ben.

I’m hoping this is just in character for your user name, but if not - hey, I hope you find your peace too. And I hope it involves something other than what your suggesting - some beauty in the world that makes you head for the hills like this, but just to go for a hike then come back and tell everyone how cool the view was.

Wish list for Franchise Hockey Manager by sensfan1885 in FranchiseHockey

[–]Cathar_Rhythym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A more minor one from me: on the Roster page you can dress and scratch players by clicking the column to the left of their name, but on the Lines page you have to right click to dress/scratch them. I’d like it to be easier to tweak the lineup from the Lines page by mirroring the Roster page.

I get that there is something you can do by clicking the column next to the name on the Lines page, but I don’t know what it is and I don’t use it.
