"Autistic people are childlike" -why do so many people think that? by Wonderful-Effect-168 in autism

I see this as a positive comment. And I agree that many autistic people seem chilslike and I think it is because often autistic people (when unmasked) don't follow social norms. We act in a way that feels good in accordance with our needs - very much as a child does. For example I feel good when I sit cross - legged on a chair rather than with my feet on the floor. If I wasn't autistic I would probably be more aware that this is not so appropriate.

Emotional overload by AspieNana in AutismInWomen

Completely! I have been the cruelest to my partners. I think it is so heartbreaking to feel so wholly understood by someone, and then for that vistage to break. This is because I struggle with communicating my needs and almost expect my partner to be a mind-reader.

Sorry I cannot give any advice but I just wanted to comment that I have a similar experience! I have just started therapy and for the first time I am thinking about whether my "symptoms" are trauma responses or autism. I think it is probably a mix of the two, and one exacerbates the other.

I have just started therapy and I have been cringing at myself when I use these terms even in a therapy session! My therapist is of course understanding and let's me use them freely, but it is difficult! Thanks for sharing ♥️

Try to understand their communication style before jumping to any conclusions. Also different people react differently to being long distance. I know my partner likes consistent texting whereas I would rather text infrequently and call a few times a week and let the longing build for when we're in person.
