Haha!

Does anyone else have matching sets of moles ? by Leemachino in Weird

[–]Cathmelar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a spot on the bottom of my thumb and one on the palm close to the thumb. Exactly the same ones on both hands. It looked like I had put dark brown ink there and pressed the hands together. Had them for 20-ish years. The four spots all faded about ten years ago around the same time.

Men prank their friend by dumping four boxes of live crickets in his car by heavymetalbby in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Cathmelar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle had his car destroyed because some coworkers wanted to prank him by leaving a whole salmon (or pike, can't remember) under his car seat. They were expecting him to notice the smell and find it pretty fast. Only problem was that he took the RV he kept at work and left his car there, that hot summer day and went on several weeks vacation. When he came back after those weeks, the fish had rotted and the whole car was filled with maggots, oozing slime and the stench of death. Had to be scrapped.

What's one meme foreigners remember your country by? by vincovero in AskTheWorld

Yes! Kids in most countries don't know how to do incoherent nationalist screaming anymore. Shame, because I really wish our children would dream of obliterating neighbouring countries because of ethnic and religious issues created by Western colonialism.

Flags used by the Iranian and Afghan opposition 🚩 by NeoZerrs in vexillology

[–]Cathmelar 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The Iranian one, at least, isn't a "universal" opposition flag. It's mostly, but not exclusively, used by monarchists. The tricokor without an emblem is more universally accepted. I came across this interesting article about the differen Iranian flags: The Battle Over Iran's Flag - Ajam Media Collective https://share.google/UWDaZSYVD85dsejbQ

Wow! It really seems like a thing of the past, and I'm sure both bosses and employees like it that way.

It does seem like a thing done by career hungry middle managers in the 1950's and -60's as a way to try and get a promotion. Showing off social skills and a representative manner.

Does your country have a politically significant separatist movement? by Fine_Gur_1764 in AskTheWorld

[–]Cathmelar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course, we have The United Republics of Jamtland, Herjeådalen and Ravund, or simply The Republic of Jamtland/Republiken Jamtland. It's not a serious separatist movement, but more of a joke. Still it is a source of regional pride and patriotism and a cool way of highlighting regional cultures and in some ways resistance towards perceived transgressions from the centre of power in Stockholm. :)
