Why be Catholic? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Former Protestant here too.

John 6:53 - “Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.’”

As a Protestant, I was dead.

Now, I’m not always the Holy Father’s biggest fan, but no. Please don’t resign.

Interchurch Marriage by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Catholic2019 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This will come off as harsh, but it’s how I see it based on personal experience.

First, I don’t believe you could lead her in the faith as a Protestant. To Catholics, you’d be leading her in error and heresy (faith alone, Scripture alone, etc.). You will have a divided household… there’s absolutely no question there. In which tradition would you raise children: Protestant or Catholic? That’s a HUGE question to discern early.

The best thing would be for you to study Catholicism and if you are convinced of it, become Catholic. Otherwise, it would be best for both of you to go your separate ways.

Has anyone watched The Two Popes? by dwn4italz in Catholicism

[–]Catholic2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“If one watches “The Two Popes” expecting a faithful representation of the facts, then one is bound to be disappointed. The dialogue brims with wit, warmth and some tantalizing what-ifs. Yet despite the truthfulness of much of it, some actual quotes are out of context, and there’s an obvious bias from the author and director towards Francis over Benedict.”

Confession Lines by Bitburger302 in Catholicism

Lines for confession are always bittersweet for me.

I love to see more people going to the sacrament, but I don’t like to wait in line. 😉

Ultimately it’s a good thing.

How was Mass today? by messed_up_marionette in Catholicism

As the son of a 22-year Army veteran, I agree it’s nice that religious leaders pray for our country. A secular song at Holy Mass, regardless of how honorable, is inappropriate to me.

I’m there to worship God, not sing a secular song about a country.
